Anyone else play JRPGs?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
10) Lunar: Silver Star Story
9) Lost Odyssey
8) Rogue Galaxy
7) Resonance of Fate (I'm a sucker for the battle system so hard in this game)
6) Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 (Can't really separate them because you need both to get the full story)
5) Star Ocean: Second Story
4) Xenogears
3) Dragon Quest 8
2) Chrono Trigger
1) Suikoden 2

Bonus title: Wild Arms 3

I prefer to leave Final Fantasy titles out of my top 10 lists solely because of over saturation.
No Persona games?

I'm into Astria Ascending on the Switch. It's gotten a fair amount of criticism, particularly regarding the story (as opposed to the visual presentation, which has gotten a lot of praise), but I like it okay. It's like a more straightforward version of Octopath Traveler with some platforming. The battle difficulty can be adjusted, which is nice. I've also read that it's buggier on other consoles. I haven't encountered bugs on the Switch.

I got that one for the PS4 (external storage is the main reason why). Like I loaded but never really started it.

Shin Megami Tenshi V just came out so I was playing that and it's alright. I think I'd rather have one where I see a lot of the world rather than just the, move a space and only see what's in front of you type.

I think it's back to Rogue Galaxy though tonight...

Haven't played any since 3. Not a huge fan of all the high school social side story of the series. The semi relationship sim aspect just turns me off from them.

That's fair, but Persona 5 Royal is pretty legit and you have to do the social interactions to get the true ending... like Trails of Cold Steel and Persona 5, the social interactions honestly aren't forced just gives you more story on the characters. I personally like the structure and whatnot that the day to day gives you in the story.

That requires buying another console as I'm an Xbox guy. Which was an inevitability, just haven't got around to it.

You are missing out on so many JRPGs if you don't have the backwards compatible ps3... lol DS/3DS, PSP/Vita have a ton of JRPGs as well :p missing out on so much! Lol

I don't discredit it's glowing reviews. It's just not for me anymore. Games that require me to use a guide to make sure I don't miss some timed event don't do it for me. I'm not even sure most JRPGs are even fun for me at this point in my life. I'm not the completionist/grinder that I was in my youth.

I have a PS3, anything before can be done better via emulation on my PC.

I miss out on a lot of things in life. I just don't tend to care about most of it.

I'm currently replaying FF7. My wife who isn't really into games played through 15 out of nowhere recently. She asked which one she should play next and after my recommendation and a few friends she agreed to try it out. 6 is personally my favorite FF.

I have always been a grinder, so its weird not to have a game where you have to grind for me lol I'll be like lvl 8 before I am out of the first area.

I never really lost my love for the games, but then again it's what got me through the hard times so its almost a relaxing/comfort thing now

I LOVE 6. It was 3 in the SNES days. I never played 7 -- it came out the year my brother died -- so 6 is the one that will always have the nostalgia factor for me. Amazing how the SNES had that and Chrono Trigger. Those were the days...

So I was really enjoying Astria Ascending on the Switch, but now I'm halfway through and finding myself increasingly frustrated with it. The latter half of the game is more about increasingly difficult platforming and puzzle-solving in the dungeons than it's about traditional RPG fare, and I'm starting to find it very tedious. Really sad, because it was really fun until this part. But now I'm wondering if it's worth trying to finish some of these other temples. Might give it a few more tries, but if it keeps being annoying, I'll have to move on from the game.

Sounds like they didn't finish the game, in a sense, going the right direction with game play. I restarted the Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel series. I have all four games on the PS4...

I started this and immediately put it down for BD, but through the first 3 hours it was fun. Worth continuing?
