Anyone else play JRPGs?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I been playing Yakuza Like a Dragon.
Since it’s turn based now, I guess that counts as JRPG?!

It’s mindless fun.

7/10 so far because it’s dragging so much in the first 5 chapters.

Makes sense, pretty sure it takes about 2 years for them to release in the west on average.

I'm curious to see the new engine they developed for use in the Calvard arc over a prolonged play through. Looked like a pretty big jump in fidelity from the trailers I've seen so far which makes me more curious than normal about what they'll be able to do it with it.

Looks like Trails to Azure, Trails into Reverie, Trails, Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails are also supposed to come out at the same time next December...

Also

Did you know this one exists? Lol

If it's from Japan then it would be! Lol

Well the first 7 Yakuza games were brawlers. And this is turn-based.

In my mind, it had to be turn-based for it to count as “JRPG”.

Not all JRPGs are turn based, but I agree with you, since pretty much any turn based game is a JRPG (the only ones that aren't are made in likeness of a JRPG).

Recent years, there is more action RPGs coming from Japan...

Like a Dragon was pretty fun, def a big change from the previous Yakuza games. If you like it but find it a little slow check out the Judgement Games (not turn based). Same devs as the Yakuza series and set in the same universe

I forgot about the Boundless Trails, that is a spinoff iirc it isn't turnbased and doesn't add anything for the main arc.

The majority of the earlier trails games were originally made for the PSP or Vita first then ported to the Playstation and PC. Hard copies of the PSP versions are hard to find at a reasonable price. Trails in the Sky, the one you posted, is actually the start of the Liberl / Erebonia / Crossbell arcs that run through Reverie.

There was a group people who worked on fan translations on a site called the Geofront before they had an official western release. A lot of the people that worked on Geofront fan translations were actually hired by the Dev recently to work on localizations of the newer games. The Trails to Zero and Azure western releases are largely due to the work of the Geofront group.

IIRC it the main story arc goes Trails in the Sky -> Trails in the Sky FC -> Trails in the Sky the 3rd -> Cold Steel 1 -> trails to zero -> Cold steel 2 -> Azure (last chapter of CS1 through Azure are concurrent) -> CS 3 -> CS 4 -> Reverie (end first half of arc) - > Kuro No Kiseke (start of Calvard and the 2nd half of the main story arc) - > Kuro 2: Crimson Sin

Started playing Soul Hackers 2, but haven't gotten too far into it (newborn baby, just back from paternity leave, etc. doesn't leave me as much free time these days).

I dig it so far, though. @Man Called X

I don't hate it. It just hasn't sucked me in the way most SMT games have over the years.

Also HD remaster of Suikoden 1 and 2 incoming next year. Konami wants to revive the series especially following the hype that Eiyuden Chronicles has made.

Yay for me.

It isn't from Japan so not sure if classifies as a jRPG but Disco Elysium the Final Cut should on steam for 65% off for the next 6 hours

Def worth a look if you haven't heard or seen it, the added voice acting makes it better than it already was

Persona 5 Royal is coming out on the switch....
I've been wanting to play persona 5 forever but the only current gen console i have is a switch. This is really exciting news. I've heard great things about this game
