Anyone else play JRPGs?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@Sebastian

Which games have you been playing? I went and got some extra copies of some old games to replay lol

I really enjoy a couple old games. There is one from 2001 that is still very time consuming and fun if one likes Star Trek. It is called "Birth of the Federation." It is a turn-based RPG in which on builds one of six Star Trek civilizations from scratch. Takes forever to win. I have been playing a newer modification to it, the Dominion Mod III.

I also play "Mount and Blade: Warband" in which one plays a guy in the Middle Ages and it is an open-ended RPG where one can pursue many different professions, from Knight and military leader, to the tournament circuit. It is the standard, collect companions, wealth and special weapons and tools. One can eventually rule the world. It is also very time consuming.

What system are those on? Pc?

I need some new game suggestions! I ordered the Mount and Blade one just to try it out. I will look at the other one another day if I remember too!

I've personally been playing FF12 and Tales of Vesperia. Neither game I bothered to finish on their first consoles, so might as well play the remasters on the One in between my hours of Apex.

The older Tales games are really good, new ones aren't as good but still solid. I have been replaying Suikoden series.

I just did a playthru of 1-3 a while back on my PS3.

I own the whole Suikoden series, which is a pretty penny to own them since the 2nd one is a very rare video game.

Any games you hoping they come back and remaster?

I would love it, but don't expect it to ever happen.

I used to own the full series on disc but they were stolen years ago. I bought 1-4 again for the PS3 but 5 and tactics were never put on the store. Never played any of the gensos either.

Physical copy of the suikoden 2 will cost 200+ if you get the original case with the game. Suikoden 5 is actually kind of my favorite of the games. 3 I think is still considered the best one of the bunch in a sense.

I'm well aware of what physical copies cost. No desire lol

what's the appeal of JRPGS? can't honestly understand.

A good JRPG is a heavy storyline, strategy game. Jap games though have a tendency to have different stories than the American games as well, so it makes it more interesting.

American games focus on a ton of action with less story, while Jap games focus on the storyline then add in the action (at least the ones that do well).

I happen to be a heavy reader and I love strategy games as well so its perfect for me. If you want any suggestions, let me know and I can direct you to some most people like regardless of the genre they like.

Personally, western RPGs tended to be full of stereotypical tropes. Hero of destiny, save the world, blah. The stories tended to rather linear with very little expansion of the characters. JRPGs were full of their own tropes, but tended to allow a wider range of emotions to play out through the story. Characters tended to grow.

I always think of early western RPGs as Fast & Furious movies, while JRPGs were the Lord of the Rings. More depth, more substance.

If you guys don't have Persona 5 Royal something is so wrong with you! Lol

Well you explained it way better than I did haha.

I got Persona 4 Golden on PC a couple of months ago and have already put in 60+ hours. First persona game I've ever played. Pretty fun gameplay. Storyline is meh so far but the chase for maximum efficiency keeps me going.
