Anyone else play JRPGs?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

@Man Called X what do you think of that list? Others can chime in as well!
I'm good with it, but I'm one that prefers to leave Final Fantasy games off the list. I could never really get into 9, even though I did multiple playthroughs *actually on one now but it's been a couple months since I picked it up*

Let's be real tho, any list with Suikoden 2 as the #1 game is okay in my book.

Eiyuden Chronicle can't come out soon enough.

I got Rogue Galaxy on my PS4 store since it was like 7.50 the other day and I started playing that again...

Well I am a bit bored at the moment so I wanna hear everyone's Top 10 JRPGs (@Man Called X ) and maybe the Top 10 Babes of JRPGs lol (@The Oi I'm sure would love to see this list lol)

I'll get back to you on this one later.

But as an aside, I'm going to include a bonus title because it's not a JRPG but a western.

10) Lunar: Silver Star Story
9) Lost Odyssey
8) Rogue Galaxy
7) Resonance of Fate (I'm a sucker for the battle system so hard in this game)
6) Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 (Can't really separate them because you need both to get the full story)
5) Star Ocean: Second Story
4) Xenogears
3) Dragon Quest 8
2) Chrono Trigger
1) Suikoden 2

Bonus title: Wild Arms 3

I prefer to leave Final Fantasy titles out of my top 10 lists solely because of over saturation.

Not sure I can pull a top 10 together as the bottom half is going to be a little full of Tales games since thats what I have basically been playing in the last year. Also want to avoid multiples from the same franchise. I'll do a top 5 instead. Also, probably stretching the JRPG a bit as some of these are Tact RPGs/ARPGs. Also want to clarify this is my top 5 favorites, and not the top 5 best that I have played as those two things are not the same thing.

5. Kingdom Hearts II - lot of nostalgia for this one but I remember the game being really fun. Havent played it in a few years so maybe it doesn't hold up like I remember. I picked 2 over the original because I always thought the first one felt more like a Disney game and less like a Square game, ie less of a JRPG. The billion spinoffs aren't as good imo as the first two main series games.

4. Chrono Trigger - its as close to a perfect JRPG you can get. Really fun game and still holds up.

3. Tales of Abyss - I really like the Tales franchise as a whole, and as I mentioned they would have something like 3 of the top 10 spots for me. Picking Abyss as the representative. I think Vesperia is a better game overall and recency bias goes to Berseria, but Abyss is my favorite.

2. FE8 - My second favorite franchise overall. FE8 was the first one I played but probably also the worst. I just really enjoy this one in particular.

1. Golden Sun/TLA - I don't think it is the best game on this list by any means but was the game series that got me into the genre and remains my favorite game of all time. Listing the first two as one slot since they are the first and second halves of the same game in two carts. Give me the HD remaster please.

I think you guys need to read that one, it's pretty interesting lol

BTW I so forgot to do my list the other day so I'll get it done today lol

And of course I forgot my list again.... lol

Of course I have my favorite series... Tales, Ys, Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, Suikoden, The Legend of Heroes, Persona, etc I have played 100s of games and own way more than that, so putting it down to 10 is a bit rough...

10) Sands of Destruction
A bargain bin find and it was a legit game!

9) Skies of Arcadia
My GameCube knows this game well!!!

8) Suikoden 5
To me 3 was the best made, but I just ended up liking that one the best...

7) Rogue Galaxy
One of the most underrated PS2 RPGs ever... I just loved everything about the game honestly...

6) Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana
I could never put the game down... everything was really well done and I just loved it!

5) Final Fantasy X
Early years game, and just one I played over and over... I spent too many hours on that game not to put it here!

4) Persona 5 Royal
It's just so good! Original version is legit and Royal just made it better!!

3) Tales of Destiny 2 (Tales of Eternia in Japan)
is definitely one of my favorites and it's what got my into the genre at the end of the day....

2) Valkyria Chronicles
Love the characters and the storyline in general and the game play is actually pretty solid. I am sad 3 never came state side...

1) Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 1-4...
It's one story honestly and it's amazing! It's on a must play list of any JRPG fan....

It's a scary thought that Cold Steel 1-4 is just a small part of the Legend of Heros series.

Yeah and over the next few years they have more games coming out...

Yeah. It's such a great series of games. I've played The Sky Trilogy and all the Cold Steel games. It's likely my favorite JRPG series. Because unlike some of the others all the games connect to each other.

They have some games that aren't connected to the story as well but that series in general just did everything so well! Anyone who puts a game like that down just isn't a legit gamer lol

Whats everyone been playing?
I'm into Astria Ascending on the Switch. It's gotten a fair amount of criticism, particularly regarding the story (as opposed to the visual presentation, which has gotten a lot of praise), but I like it okay. It's like a more straightforward version of Octopath Traveler with some platforming. The battle difficulty can be adjusted, which is nice. I've also read that it's buggier on other consoles. I haven't encountered bugs on the Switch.
