Are we watching a future Hall of Famer?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's way too soon to talk about this. But maybe not.

Jose Ramirez is 31 years old and has played 12 MLB seasons.
Right now, he is a 5X All-Star, 6X Silver Slugger. His WAR is 46.3
He has 1,354 hits and 221 HR's.

If he plays another 8-9 years, his numbers will be in the HOF ballpark.

The problem is, the best part of JRam's game doesn't show up in statistics - HUSTLE.
HOF voters these days just take a cold look at the statistics and that's it. I'll never understand it.

Remember, Harold Baines is a HOF'er, Kenny Lofton is not.
8-9 more years ??? No way
Maybe 3 possibly 4 good years. I think he falls short but I love him for what he has produced and the $ he walked away from to stay here. Certainly not what thome did

If he keeps up his pace for this year and adds 3 more WAR, then averages 4 for the next 4, he's right at the average for a Hall of Fame third baseman. He also has a decent shot at 2,000 hits and 350 home runs, and 300 steals. Those three would eventually get him in.

If he wins MVP this year it would go a long way.

Or another top 5 finish for the next 3 or so years.

This doesn't necessarily apply, but Randy Johnson was really good for many years but someone or someones regularly topped him until winning his 1st Cy Young award as a 31 year old (Jose is 31).
Four years later as a 35 year old, he started winning them again for four years straight. His last year as a pro, he was 45 years old. Amazing.

Jose the 3rd baseman still has a lot of life left. Jose the 3B/1B/DH? Who knows. Wouldn't surprise me all that much to see Jose still producing at the plate as he approaches his 40th birthday and then some.

I hope. Love him

I saw a Willie Mays stat this week…only 4 players have 300/300….that may be the key to get him in.

Oh my, I got confused. By the thread title I thought you were inquiring about Rocchio.

Problem is JRam isn't going to hit 500 HRs, 3000 hits etc and we got some voters who will not vote anyone in IF they don't get to those numbers...

Kenny Lofton had 68.4 career bWAR and the voters didn't even seem to care to vote for him... Ortiz had 55.3 bWAR but he got the 500 HRs...

This current crew of voters, I don't know if JRam would get in because of the fact he won't get any single category in the area they want it...
Look at Ralph Kiner's numbers. Jose will definitely get in... if he stays healthy. 400 homers and 350 stolen bases will get him there.

first 12 seasons between beltre and jose.

To be fair, Beltre had many of his best years in his 30's, includng a 900 OPS year at 38. If Jose even comes close he is 100% first ballot HOFer.

WAR is flawed & AS appearances mean a lot less given the amount of talent in the MLB nowadays.

A top 3 MVP candidate at a time Mike Trout & Aaron Judge walked the Earth is pretty damn impressive considering he's done it 4 times already.

Completely different Eras for baseball... Chipper Jones is the person he has to equal to get in...

Unless he breaks his neck, or just falls completely off a cliff overnight, Jose is going to the Hall of Fame.

He has four years left on his current contract.

Let's say he averages 150 hits, 90 runs, 25 HRs, 25 doubles 25 steals, 90 RBI, 4 bWAR per year over the remainder of his contract which seems reasonable coming off a 173 hit, 114 run, 39 HR, 39 2B, 41 SB, 6.8 bWAR season.

By the end of his current contract, he'd be at 72.4 WAR, 2100 hits, 355 HR, 464 2B, 343 SB, 1224 RBI, 1258 runs. And that's me being relatively conservative with his numbers and also assuming he retires at 35, which he probably won't do.

Those are better numbers across the board than Rolen.

If he plays a few years beyond age 35, you can conservatively add another 50 HRs, 2Bs, SBs, 400 hits, 150 RBI and runs and 7 WAR

Now you're in the 80 WAR, 2500 hits, 400 HR, 500 2B, 400 SB, 1500 RBI and runs range.

He's gonna get in unless he just completely falls off.
