Around MLB 2026

Speaking of guys in the AL Central, has anyone noticed the pedestrian start by Bobby Witt Jr? While his fWAR exceeds Jose's (0.8 to 0.7) Witt is only slugging .317 and has a 99 OPS+. But the truly eye-opening number is that he has played every game so far, batted second, and with his blazing speed has only scored one run so far. ONE. That seems inconceivable. That one statistic illustrates the difficulties KC's offense has had more than anything else. (Our second hitter, Chase Delauter has 9 runs, and he doesn't even play every game. Jose has 8.) Of course, Bobby Witt has yet to homer either (!)

Did you know that someone other than a pitcher can be called for a balk? I sure didn't.

Tuesday night Josh Naylor was called for a balk. Why? The umpire said he positioned himself too far away from first to receive a pick-off throw from the pitcher.

No one playing or coaching or managing or broadcasting the game had ever heard of anything like that happening. Crazy.

Happened in 2019 to the Brewers.

The balk is still called on the pitcher, even though the 1B by lack of being on or near the base and not making an attempt to tag the runner caused the balk.

Naylor made an attempt at a tag even though he was in front of the bag. I don't think Naylor's should have been called. Thames' case w/ the Brewers in '19 looked like the right call of receiving the throw over with no attempt at tagging the runner.

And you thought WE were having problems...

At the beginning of the week, the Kansas City Royals had a 110 wRC+ with no one on base...and with someone in scoring position? 37. Thirty-seven. And that was BEFORE they lost two consecutive 2-1 games to Detroit in their current series.

You can only imagine how frustrated we'd be were we in their situation right now.

Mets are getting their asses handed to them by the Cubs 12-4, on the verge of losing nine straight. Mendoza's seat should be on fire at this point

So have they said what happened? Early 50s, way too young. He was my paradigm for the young Michael Brantley.

Mets' losing streak reached 11 with a walk-off loss against the Cubs. They need to get rid of Mendoza now

What did Mendoza do? It was the general manager who put this team together. I say keep everyone involved and let's see how bad this gets. And trust me, one person who will NEVER take ownership for any of this misery is Francisco Lindor.
