Ask Bimbo

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
OK Bimbo, at what point does Cantillo get promoted? He had another fantastic outing tonight and has been pretty much lights out all season.
Don't forget Cantillo is coming off an injury that basically wiped out his entire 2021 season (only 13 IP)..
How much CLE has him go (in each start & for this year) are relevant questions & items to watch as fans..

I haven't forgotten Mad, but he's giving them 5 innings with each start it seems. The problem is that he is dominating the competition at AA.

I'm not stressed about it or anything. TBH, I'm probably one of the few that doesn't think there is much difference between AA and AAA, but if the natural progression is to promote guys when they're ready then that seems to be fitting in the case of Cantillo.

Do you think he will finish the season as a starter, or out of the bullpen?

Just looked for others answers ...
On June 2 "Don't think anyone will get one soon, unless mid-July counts as soon. Espino, health permitted, has little left to prove in the minors in general and is a prime candidate. Gaddis and Cantillo are there too.

And Gaddis and Curry will be treated as starters until the last moment possible in this system. Good chance they're traded before they have to make that decision, but Gaddis has the better makeup to be a reliever."

On April 14, "Big year for him (Cantillo). Still very highly regarded (I think he is still the best LH SP prospect in the system), just needs to stay healthy."

Hey @Bimbo seeing Freeman rounding into shape and finding his footing, I see him fighting with Owen for the starting 2B job next year, with Gimenez starting at SS…..,Do you see the same, and does he have some Rosario type approach when it comes to his AB….I watch a few of his games seems more like a free swinger with good bat contact

If they don't trade Freeman, I can see it. But I also wouldn't rule out a situation where Arias at SS and Gimenez at 2B is your up the middle combo next year.

When you find All-Star caliber play from a young guy you typically don't mess with what is working.

And I wouldn't say Freeman is a "free swinger". He just puts the ball in play a lot. Low K%s, low BB%s, puts pressure on the defense. Similar to Rosario, yes, but Freeman has a better feel for the strikezone than Rosario has ever had. But he's missing a lot of Rosario's natural gifts, i.e. speed and bat speed.

Look for promotions following the 1st half AA playoffs and MiLB All-Star break.

Organization always likes letting players get their recognition before moving them along.

Hey Bimbo, who in your opinion represents Cleveland in the Futures game this year? Williams and Naylor? Valera?

I value your opinion, and would like to see some more. What would you do if you were the decision maker next year with Giminez and Arias? Would you have them start up the middle based on what you know now?

I think Gimenez has been amazing this year and is my favorite Guardian right now. (Jose is so fucking good its almost boring to like him as number 1, lol), I love your insight, but also value your opinion.

@BimboColesHair : Came back to see what I need to know for the NBA Draft tonight. Have some quick hitters:

1) What are your thoughts on the futures of Amed, Franmil, Plesac and Civale? (Personally I think the organization has willing to move on from Plesac if we get appropriate value for a little while now--and with Franmil's decline, I think we're trying to move him to open up a spot for the youngsters).
2) It seems like Gimenez, Straw, Kwan, OGon, Naylor, Jose and Miller have all earned everyday spots moving forward. Do you think this holds? And, if so, what does that mean for the logjam of youth behind them?
3) Arias, Freeman, Jones, Naylor, Valera. Who ends up getting a shot this year, and who would you love to trade for fair value?
4) Rocchio, Angel Martinez, Jose Tena, Jhonkensy Noel. Who gets a shot over the next 2 years, and who would you love to trade for fair value?

If these are quick hitters, I’d hate to see what you’d come up with if you had any time on your hands :chuckle:

I feel they're pretty top-level, and not really a deep dive, like what specific pitches Oscar Gonzalez struggled with in the minors, and how has he handled those pitches at the major league level? Or, how did pitchers adjust to Steven Kwan, and do you think his adjustment to that adjustment is going to lead to long-term success?

Ok, quick-hitter for you @Derek : Does James Karinchak ever become a reliable, back-end of the bullpen stud now that they've removed his sticky stuff? Or was the sticky his version of Samson's hair?

In relation to who all will be exposed in the next Rule 5 draft….are there any guys you can think of at the top of your head who will likely be left unprotected, and likely to be selected?

And out of that group, are there any of those whose value you deem too high to lose a guy or 2 like this? The reason I’m asking is relative to the trade deadline.

Obviously when going like a guy like Brian Reynolds, you’re giving up top prospects regardless. My question relates more to a potential half year rental like Wilson Contreras or pitcher Luis Castillo.

Can you think of a prospect package that you would be fine with sending out for one these type guys that normally would be too high of a prospect price, but maybe this year would make a lot of sense considering how much talent will be exposed for only 40 spots?

I’ll give an example. Would you be ok with a package involving Nolan Jones and Tyler Freeman for a rental guy to go all i. This year, considering there are no real paths for either at the big league club?

Sincerely the FO has pretty much stated All-Star or young guys. I could see them sending Tena plus a SP prospect at most for a rental. I really doubt they are willing to spend much on a rental.

What the hell is up with Straw? He looks like a completely different hitter this year.
