Ask Bimbo

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Thanks Bimbo ... appreciate insights that you provide. I will re-iterate my previous post for weeks ago ... Lets keep this to strictly Bimbo questions, Answers to questions that Bimbo previously gave (but can't get to when working and time w family). This way when he does have time to answer questions he doesn't need to search 10 pages of our laymen's 3rd party opinions that belong elsewhere when he is trying to help us out.

I appreciate it.

Few people ruined it for you guys though. Might be a long while until I get around to these.

I seriously hope not.

Your insights are a great benefit to most of us.

I'd much rather, for you and those that follow you, that the miscreants be put on ignore.
Cats, please check your DMs.

If/when I do open this back up, I am laying some ground rules that I should have set up before agreeing to do this.

1. Respect my time. Understand that, for the most part, I am answering these questions late at night after a long workday, on my only day off during the week (Monday), or during the free time I have before my workday begins.

2. Do not share what I put in here on Twitter or Facebook or some other forum. It has happened a few times. Same rules that apply to S34 (for those who are members), do not go broadcasting this on social media and bring attention to where it shouldn't be. I do this for this forum, not for anyone else.

3. If you use what I am asked and answer in here as a way to get off and make jokes at my expense, I will never answer a question in here again or provide any useful information to this board ever again. Back to point 1, respect my time. Why would I waste my time if the response by some is to make fun of the answer and, in turn, the time spent. I am not doing this for your entertainment. Don't be a dick and ruin it for everyone else. Yes, I will be wrong about things. It's the way this works. I will admit when I am, as I did with Oscar Gonzalez as recently as a week ago.

4. The player eval process is littered with negatives. If you would like my negative views on things, of which there are many, ask me specifically for them. I do not have time to give a rundown of positives and negatives about each individual prospect, player, coach, GM, owner who is the subject of a question at the depth I like to post. It is much easier, time friendly, and I am sure fulfilling to the board as a whole to type quick positives about certain subjects. If you don't like the positives, too bad. Ask for a negative. Again, #1, respect the time I take to try and answer everyone's questions and why I may do it a certain way that curtails the time spent answering.

Enjoy the game as a whole, hopefully we see some good baseball moving forward. Something we all want or are working towards.

Pick two that you have to live with batting in the lineup everyday for the next four years, starting with 2023.

Franmil Reyes
Josh Naylor
Nolan Jones
Jhonkensy Noel
Oscar Gonzalez

Before Naylor got hurt, when he was eating everyone's smoke, I thought he had locked up an everyday spot. Now, even with the walkoff, I see an inconsistent guy who struggles. I don't care how much energy you bring-- the tying run is at third and you're swinging to hit the ball into Lake Erie until you got two strikes? That's bad plate discipline. You were 1-11 for the series too.

But, then you hit the walk-off. So, maybe it's good that you don't let the slump change you? I think I'm too baseball-dumb to have an educated take on Naylor at this point--hence the question.1

Can only repeat what everyone has said about how valuable your insight is, and how appreciated it is. Thank you.

However ~ In my 20 years of lurking message boards all over the internet, I have yet to find one that didn't have a couple of childish baboons flinging their feces. Sometimes it is the same handful of hooligans. Sometimes it's a random poster on a random day.. probably just someone having a bad day. Regardless.. the trolls are always out there. They go hand in hand with internet forums. You can't have one without the other.

I have been the baboon before. I will be the baboon again. Altho slightly educated baboon.. baboon kno better not fling bimbo poo.

My humble recommendation to you is to ignore these baboons. I know this is not some great revelation for you. But it's advice worth repeating. In the meantime, we as a board can be better at self-policing baboons and telling them to STFU when poking stupid little jokes at your expense.

It sounds like you've said you enjoy 98% of the forum. So 98/100 interactions are good? What we need to strive for is making that 99.5%. Let's get you to enjoying 995 out of 1000 interactions here.

There will never be 100% of posters playing by your guidelines 100% of the time.. It would be a damn shame for you to give up on us for a couple of baboons.

Hope this thread can pick back up soon if/when you're ready. Thanks for everything!

Bimbo, when I started this thread I did so with the intent that we could post a question and you could get to it when convenient for you. If your inbox gets too full just say something and we'll have Q shut it down. I just like to post my questions because I'll f'ing forget them in the very near future.

Some of us were for getting OGon to Cleveland and some of us thought he'd struggle from the get go, but nobody could have imagined he'd do what he did. As good as he's doing what you warned us about is evident.

Sorry for the smartass responses that you received. I hope they don't ruin it for everyone else.

There's a desire by some here to be "right" for some odd reason. If they actually knew anything about baseball they would understand that unpredictability is a staple. Anyway, we appreciate the time you take to give us some actual information. Again, for those of us that frequent here it's invaluable so thanks.

Really appreciate the info and the spirit in which it is given. It reminds me of what managers do sometimes 'off the record'. When I covered the team back in the 90s/00s, Grover or Charlie would get a question then say something like "Pencils down guys" then proceed to give background before answering the question or they would answer the question off the record. It kept us better informed of the club's thinking and in the long run, it helped promote better questions when covering the team. It prevented stories/takes from getting off the rails. I view a lot of what you (Bimbo) state here in a similar context. I think it helps manage expectations, even when we don't want to hear it sometimes lol. All the best to ya @BimboColesHair

Bimbo is the absolute best. Some of y’all are bad apples.

Bimbo, if you ever decide to come back to these, can you explain why Nolan Jones new stance is seemingly giving him more plate coverage? My eye is very untrained, but it looks like because the swing is much shorter, the control+ his general size allows for unreal plate coverage. It’s so great to see, because I know a lot of outside places soured on him, and you’ve stated before that the org never did.

If he is available, absolutely.

98th percentile in avg exit velo, 95th percentile in HardHit%, 93rd percentile in Barrel %. All of those numbers are either career highs or the 2nd highest in his career too.

Hitting the ball hard, just was not getting rewarded for it. But if he continues to do that when he is back and with the weather changed for the better, the power numbers are coming.

Every number he has put up in his peripherals is right at or within his career averages, save for K%. Big telltale signs there that progression back towards his career averages is coming.

@BMAN

I hope you listened to me and got him for free. .257/.275/.576 slash since he’s been back. 6 2B, 5 HR, 13 RBI in 17 games. Good production for free, even if it’s on your bench.

Oh I did. Guys been starting for me. Injury bug has hit my team good.

Bimbo, thank you for all of the time you spend doing this. Here are my two questions:

1) Can you give me your thoughts on what our lineup will be in 2023 or even 2024? Seems like we have a glut of outfielder prospects and middle infielders so I am curious as to what you think will happen.
2) Does the organization view Gim as a cornerstone to the franchise? Also, has the way he has played this year changed their belief on him at all? Do we see him as the future 2B or SS?

Thanks again!

Also curious about the Andres position of the future. All-star 2B, he may want to stay there. Rocchio or Arias for the SS future!

@BimboColesHair

I'm not even going to get one forearm hair prickled about the possibility, but I have to ask for curiosity's sake..

Can you give any insight into what you believe the cost for the Guardians would be to acquire Juan Soto? Gun to my head, I don't think they think Soto + an arm or two is enough to make us contenders this year. Nor am I even close to sure that they're interested in a 2.5 year loan at the cost of depleting the top tier of their farm system.

Assuming for a moment that they're actually interested in that loan, and they do believe they could legitimately contend this season..

Would the Nats be asking for all 3 of Valera, Espino, and Williams ++? I imagine in this make believe scenario, Cleveland hangs up immediately. Still, they have to be making the call for curiosity's sake, like I'm asking here now.
