It's a miracle this franchise is still in town.

We've actually had TWO dudes named Gregg as our head coach.

Wylie went from one of the most loved former coaches to one of the most hated in a few days. Impressive.

I was a vocal critic when Wylie was originally hired. He has spent the vast majority of this past decade coaching in the Canadian Football League. He served on Hue's staff with the Raiders and was brought back to the NFL by Hue. That's all you need to know about why he took some shots at Freddie out of nowhere. His career is pretty much over, and it had been over before he joined the Browns.

Did people actually like Wylie?

He was a strange dude that said stupid shit and was morbidly obese trying teach athletes how to move the correct way without being able to move himself.
You just described a whole lot of current NFL coaches.

I know that ultimately Kitchens will be judged by the team's performance on the field, as he should, but if this video isn't a striking change from all of the Hue mic'd up moments in Hard Knocks.

Freddie just feels like a REAL football coach where most of Hue's interactions with others felt almost forced, like a politician trying to coax players and coaches into listening to him through weird manipulation tactics, which apparently only his ego thought would work.

Hue was one of those guys who always needed to remind people that he was the boss. No one likes bosses like that. You don't gain respect by telling people you're in charge. You do it by putting in the work to make them respect you and want to work hard for you.

That little video shows me some things as a coach who looks for things to emulate from pros:

He communicates expectations at the outset. I’m assuming “set the tone” has a more specfific meaning to those guys and that staff.

He holds everyone in that practice accountable, including the makeshift referee. This sets a firm tone that we’re here to work.

He gives targeted feedback, both positive and negative, in a way that makes easy to receive in a 1 on 1 setting.

This guy can coach. It’s clear as day.

We hope he can manage a game and an organization as well.

Freddie just acts like he has been a head coach for 10+ years. The job doesn't feel to big for him like it seemed for Hue. The reminding he is the head coach isn't there. I loved he yelled at the official on the hold, I saw it and thought what the fuck is the ref there for if he isn't going to call a blatant hold.

Oh, and Willie McGinest and Kurt Warner saying the feel like Freddie has control of the team and is a winning coach? What do those 2 know about winning or winning coaches? You think being a 3 time superbowl QB and being a SB MVP, or Willie being coached by Belicheck and winning 3 SB's taught those guys anything? come one, they don't know anything about a winning culture, lol.

I really love Freddie, we are finally lucky it looks like.

So, we've seen Freddie all offseason - in camp and during practice, as well as addressing the media. He has been great so far. But now, we've finally gotten the chance to see him in two preseason games on the field. What do you guys think so far?

I love the emotion. He will get angry or happy and he will show it. I hated seeing Hue on the side with the same dumbfounded expression no matter what happened on the field. Even before him it seemed like we would have coaches who weren't fired up (Pettine, Shurmur, Romeo, etc...). It finally feels like our entire TEAM is one fired up, passionate unit. Everyone is in sync and my gut feeling is that this team will be special. I predicted 10-6 but my homer-self is seeing 11-13 wins being possible.

Fans giving weight to managers/coaches "showing emotion" is one of the most annoying things in sports.

I think Freddie is a fantastic coach, and a great man. Those two things go hand-in-hand.

Attributing anything to the level of emotion he does or does not display while standing on the sideline is doing the man a disservice.
