Avengers: Infinity War spoiler thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, no, I get all that. I was just asking because it seems like they're leaving breadcrumbs for those that aren't aware of the source material.

Even if you're not aware of the source material, I'm not sure I'd classify those as breadcrumbs. When they said that Black Panther will return at the end of the BP film, they could have simply been referring to him returning in Infinity War. He did, and then he died.

But regardless, you'd think common sense would win out here. Even casual viewers can easily see that most of those that died our fairly new to the Marvel universe and, thus, likely have many movies to go. Many of those films are already announced. Thus, they probably aren't dead for real.

So I watched Dr. Strange and Civil War over the weekend. At the end of DS, after the credits it said "Dr. Strange will return." At the end of Civil War, same thing but referencing Spiderman. Have any of the other marvel movies had the same line with one of the characters that disappeared at the end of Infinity War?
Definitely did for GOTG1 and pretty sure they dud for GOTG2.

Yeah, I could totally be making connections where there are none.

They've had those at the end of every movie in the MCU

Infinity War even said "Thanos will return"

It's just them referencing their future movie appearances

Re-watching Parks and Rec...

When Andy and April get married, Andy says in his vows that marrying April will make him the happiest man in the GALAXY.

How did they KNOW????

If you see Deadpool 2, there are mid credit scenes but no end end credit scene. There is, however, a funny song at the very end, so just stick around.

Just saw this movie lol. It was fantastic.

The only minor critique would be when Strange says he went through 14M+ permutations of the future, I thought it would have been better for him to say that there were 3 possible paths to victory. That way when they were trying to get the glove off and failed, the implication could have been “strike one.” Then they could add a strike 2 into next movie, so that then there would be no margin for error. With 1 path, it’s almost as if there was no point in trying to take the glove off. I guess there are more than 14M paths, so Strange didn’t know what wouldn’t work, but still.

Overall tho, no gripes. Very fun movie that I stayed up too late to watch bc couldn’t stop.

I couldn’t imagine taking a 6 year old to this. My oldest is 6 but she is sensitive. No way would I take her.

Trying to take the glove off and failing is all part of the one single path that works

Sure but is that the best story line? And if so, why try to take it off? The only logical reason would be that something happened during that fight that will help them during victory. If that’s the case, it must be Strange’s sacrifice of his jewel to save Stark’s life. So best guess is that Stark must be key in the ploy to reverse time and bring everyone back. Going totally out there, maybe Thanos was too powerful already, so the only outcome for victory was to use Thanos in part to stop Thanos.

My guess is that Stark ends up dead so that 1. They get their money’s worth in featuring him for the next movie and 2. They don’t have to pay him so much going forward.

Yeah, I mean, there was only one possibility so everything needed to happen in an exact way. Nothing that happened during the fight has to be necessarily significant, it's more of a butterfly effect type thing. Strange needed to make sure everything went down exactly how it was in his vision.

Strange didn't foresee 1 possible plan that would work, he foresaw 1 exact future.

FWIW, we actually have an answer to the question "was it destined that they couldn't get the Gauntlet off or not?" I was always of the mind that it was simply irrelevant and that they were doomed to fail thus StarLord had no impact on this outcome, he simply accelerated the inevitable ... but ... the Russo Brothers have since stated that this isn't true.

StarLord, in his infinite wisdom, is significantly responsible for the snap.

According to them, had StarLord not shot Thanos, Spider-Man and Iron-Man would have gotten the Gauntlet off of him. At that point, who knows what would happen, but according to the Russo Brothers, it's highly unlikely, if not simply impossible, that Thanos could have gotten the Gauntlet back from either of those two heroes given one of them would then possess the Powers Cosmic.

Now did Doctor Strange know this would happen?

I think the only way the story makes sense is if, as @Derek suggests, Strange didn't know the totality of events of all 14M universes, but just scanned for a favorable outcome and found only 1. This would mean StarLord's blunder would've been included in the list of ~13.9999M universes that he considered lost causes.

That being said, since Doctor Strange is just a man, he doesn't have the ability to consider all of those possibilities in real-time... So once he stopped using the Time Stone, all that he could be left with is a birds-eye view of what he experienced. He couldn't have known or remembered the individual event of StarLord shooting Thanos having caused him to regain consciousness; at least, not before seeing it unfold in real-time.
