Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Baker is who he is. He’s capable of games where he looks amazing, but at the end of the day he’s mediocre at best and outright bad at times. You can’t let the great performances fool you because there’s always a likely chance the next week is going to look like this one.

So what's next for him?

If McVay stays, I'd guess Mayfield signs up to be Stafford's backup in 2023.

If McVay goes, his future becomes a lot murkier because no one else seems overly interested in him.
Pretty sure Stafford is cooked and going to retire.

At the very least, it sounds like McVay is going to resign.

Stafford just a couple of weeks ago said he was not going to retire.

He has $160M reasons not to call it quits :chuckle:

I do agree with you about McVay though.

Yeah, you can bump it.

He's a terrible game day manager, especially of the clock and when to go for it. He's maybe the best playcaller I've ever seen, but so is Andy Reid, and he's only gotten 1 SB ring after years of dominating QB play.

The contract notes for Stafford are this. I don't know the cap implications but maybe he doesn't retire but forces the Rams to cut him. Maybe they just eat his 2023 salary and move on. I think he is cooked and they would be dumb to stick with him.

  • 2025 Roster Bonus: $5M (3rd league day of 2025)
  • 2026 Roster Bonus: $5M (3rd league day
