Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Good for him. I've got nothing against Baker at all, I'm rooting for him. He's a starting NFL QB, but he's a bottom 1/3 starting NFL QB. Although it's a great deal for him, it's not a great deal for the Bucs. Their team ceiling is a fringe playoff team with him.

Agree with all but the last sentence. Baker is capable of putting together a Big Dick Nick streak. Flacco also did it with the Ravens. Doug Williams had one hot quarter to win a Super Bowl also. Plunkett won two.

Sure but as evidenced by your post, thats something that only happens once in a decade. It’s a borderline miracle to win like that. Not exactly what you’d want to tie your franchise to, IMO.

The Bucs also have to *make* the playoffs. In best year to be in the worst division in football (Carolina, New Orleans and Atlanta were all embarrassing messes), they barely made the playoffs at full strength. Atlanta with Cousins or Fields? David Carr remembering how to be average? Bryce Young returning to Alabama form? It gets much tougher going forward. And lets not forget Baker being Baker in the playoffs last year to end their season.

No doubt they benefitted from playing in an all-time bad division. And even in this “good” season, you still had the Baker roller coaster effect throughout.

Think a lot people are overreacting to their playoff win against a historically collapsing Eagles team. It’s tough to imagine them going any further in the near future.

Watson isn’t the answer and just because mayfield is better doesn’t mean he is either. It was worth the risk if you thought you were getting that missing piece. We still need to find that guy to get us over the hump if we kept mayfield.

Good for Bake. Interested to see how my collection of rookie cards rise in value.... from zero a couple years ago... :chuckle:

He did get to the second round vs KC and wasn’t far from a win in that game.

I agree he’s not a high level QB but I don’t like the word “ceiling”. It strongly implies a hard limit and I don’t buy that.

Fun Fact: Baker Mayfield is just tall enough to ride The Baker Mayfield Experience.
