Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
But we have seen several examples of these throws and inabilities from 2018-2020 when the shoulder was not an issue.

What I’m more concerned with than anything in that regard is those plays were happening with a pretty healthy and talented roster.

All QB’s need that at their disposal, but someone who is limited with physical gifts and is not an overall good decision maker needs that more than most…

So unless Baker has elite talent all around him I’m not sure just how effective he’s going to be… couple that with paying the man and him eating a majority of the cap moving forward and it becomes an issue… He can navigate the talent around him perhaps to success — he’s not gonna be able to make the team a success on his play and if you can’t pay top tier players to put around him — well you’re sitting there with a high paid QB who isn’t good enough…

Tough spot…

I know we don't agree on much with Baker but I actually agree with this.

Now, I don't think he needs Pro Bowlers in every spot. But he's not talented enough to overcome an average to mediocre group of pass-catchers.

Part of why Garoppolo is in the spot he's in is because instead of WR2/3 quality guys like Landry/DPJ/Hooper he's throwing to Samuel/Aiyuk/Kittle. That's a huge difference.

Priority #1 this offseason needs to be addressing this. Grab a WR with your 1st and sign a quality FA.

Confidence. He didn’t trust his mechanics, he didn’t trust his accuracy, he didn’t trust his tackles etc. when Baker is confident he can make throws 90% of the league can’t make. We saw it his rookie year, we saw it in 2020, we saw it even the first 2 games of this year.
This is healthy Baker Mayfield tho…. No shoulder issues… It’s this shit right here… I don’t care about that play action 45 yard seed that he throws…

When I see this shit right here I’m concerned…. He could throw 15 TD’s in a row and when I see this I’m just lost…

It’s not that he misses him ? WHO are you double pumping for ? How do you play like this with a healthy shoulder ? And without any track record of success to fall back on….

Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers could make this same play and I’m fine with it…. Not Baker Mayfield… He’s not earned anything yet….

This is just awful…

I don't know, and I really don't care enough to get into hypotheticals about it. I just find it amusing you said if 2020 Baker Mayfield used a time machine to travel forward to this season he wouldn't be able to win a playoff game against a QB that didn't even make the playoffs.

Carry on.

No, what I'm saying is people always reference how good Baker was in 2020 and I don't think that version of Baker would've been good enough to win a playoff game this season. So Baker needs to be better than we've ever seen him for us to have success and I just do see how that's going to happen here.

It’s 1 play… look at his feet when he throws this ball. Obviously it was terrible mechanics. So what you are saying is Baker has to be perfect on every single throw he makes bc he’s not Rodgers or Manning. Makes sense

But that’s what they said about the Felton play… It’s one play..

Then throwing into double coverage in the back of the end zone while Jarvis is underneath…. Just one play… Mind you they’re the easiest %^*^%^! plays a damn quality QB should make…

Like you said— you have eyes, well read this …. Fact are this is the caliber of QB we have in this modern era…The guy is just not a consistently good upper echelon NFL QB…. But live in your 2020 world all you want…

So when Oakland decides to keep Carr because there's no clear upgrade for them and he wasn't the reason they couldn't beat Cincy. Oakland also has a questionable WR room.

Rodgers has options of GB, Denver, or if Tom retires, he can weigh Tampa. Then there's always NY. Cleveland is pretty far down the list. Especially with DPJ your #1.

Watson is still in limbo. We literally have no idea where that situation turns. For the better, or for the worst.

Russ, same as Rodgers. Cleveland is way down the list. Strong line, great Run game, questionable playcalling, ends there. Why Cleveland over other better WR situations?

There's 4 guys right there that would cost heavy draft capital. We won't be selecting any WR1's in this year's draft to help them guys asap.

Which leaves me to Cousins or Baker.

Cousins, in my opinion, shouldn't cost a 1st round pick. His contract is outrageous. Cousins also doesn't outduel Mahomes or Allen in that game last night. He may not ever outduel Joey. He couldn't even beat Baker in his 7-14 loss to the Browns.

Bash Baker everyday all you want. Who's the upgrade?!?!

"For all you mediocre QB gets us in" people, who cares, mediocre QB isn't beating that beast last night. I'd rather draft a high-end QB than trade for one better than the current situation, but not good enough to beat 5 others in the conference.

How do you go from asking a question to ranting about excuses when someone tries to provide an answer to said question?

Edit: Okay, I realize you were a different person. Your posts are pretty damn similar - but no excuses were being made, I was simply addressing the question.
I just hate masking excuses for the guy. He's been inconsistent throughout his Browns career and played like crap in 2021...let's call it what it is. This isn't necessarily directed at you, but some people want Mayfield to be our franchise QB so badly that they seemingly can't see straight.

So you pointed out 3 throws over a 2 year span. You know how many QB’s in this league miss throws like that as well? Almost all of them. This unrealistic expectations that Baker can’t miss a single read or throw is just crazy. Did he not play well in 2021? Yes we all know that. Was it the injury that caused that? No one absolutely knows. And that’s the point. Btw Baker in 2020 with an upgrade wr core is absolutely good enough to go to the super bowl and win it with this run game and defense. But I laugh at this bc we have posters on here clamoring for Winston while saying Baker sucks.

Your realistic expectation of Baker that his play equates him to being a high level NFL QB is disturbing.

The problem that you and others aren't seeing is that you're focusing on the answer to this question and skipping over why we're asking it in the first place.

If we're even in here discussing possible upgrades then we have a huge problem. Don't you think if little ol me is in here discussing options that Andrew Berry and Paul DePodesta have already began doing their due diligence?

Clearly not. I'm sure they're holding onto 2020 as well

Trading Baker to NO for Jamies Winston and then using Jamies as a bridge to Malik Willis should definitely be an option. We might even get a pick for our troubles.

Baker for Jameis is definitely a lateral move. I'd like to have a prospect like Willis as well.

LoL, Jameis!!!! JAMEIS!!!

Same guy that wanted Kap and Cam

Los, you wouldn't even manage a Browns team on Madden to the Superbowl without turning down sliders or something :chuckle:

Bridge you say... Baker is already your bridge to whoever in 2023.

I agree cause they're the same production wise.

That's the crazy part. If we were going into next season with Jameis people would be clamoring for someone else.
