Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wasn't making an argument to dump Baker and pickup Winston so I don't know why you're saying that.

I was pointing out that their numbers have been almost identical the last two years and it's funny seeing the excuses for Baker being made like he's just going to drastically turn it around. I was showing how he is probably more likely to go down the path of a Jameis Winston than end up being the QB we thought he would be.

Where have you seen this? I think people are saying that Baker isn't done being evaluated yet, nor should he. Winston IS done being evaluated.

Also, you just mentioned Winston in a previous post where you listed the QBs you wanted the Browns to look into lol. Here, I'll quote you:

It also depends on which QB's are available in the offseason. There's bound to be at least one or two guys who become available who aren't available right now.

Cam Newton
Carson Wentz
Jimmy Garoppolo
Derek Carr
Jamies Winston
Sam Darnold
Jacoby Brissette
Dwayne Haskins
Matt Stafford
Mitch Trubisky
Matt Ryan

I think it's safe to assume that all of those QB's will be available in the offseason so we'll see how things shake out. Either way if we are going to be moving on for baker there will be some options out there.

Also Baker has taken plenty of hits in the leadership department too so I wouldn't be so quick to paint the picture as if he's a team leader because he's shown already that he just isn't ready for that yet.

Baker has not lost the trust and confidence in his teammates. There hasn't been any indication that he has. Whereas with Winston, teammates questioned his maturity and leadership. Gerald McCoy said he needs to 'grow up'.

Baker's main issues are on the field.

The things that people are still evaluating Baker on aren't thing that just get fixed. Especially not during a season like this. I don't see how he's going to completely change his pocket presence and decision making. A lot of it is due to his physical abilities coupled with his lack of processing. Those aren't quick fixes.

Did you misread that post? I listed QB's who are going to be available and that could potentially be options for us if we move on from Baker. That list is exactly what I said it is. A list of QB's who could potentially be available. I did not choose one QB specifically. I listed who will be available. What's the problem with that? How is that any different than listing potential Head Coaches if we were looking for a coach? It's just a list.

I strongly disagree with the bolded. I do believe that OBJ and Landry have lost confidence in him. It shows in their body language every week. Look at how they react after plays. They are visibly frustrated and it's not because they are being covered. It's because Baker can't get them the ball good enough consistently.

I also think there's a reason why Baker isn't the unquestioned leader of this team. He's said some things out of his mouth sideways about several of his teammates before like Duke Johnson and Myles Garrett. He's gotten into petty beefs with people in the media on multiple occasions. He was way out of line how he was attacking Hue Jackson regardless if what he was saying was right. he wasn't in no position to be talking that big shit like he was and a lot of people around the league soured on him after that.

Coming into last season badly out of shape and that stupid cheesecake factor shit. He's had way too many things to talk about besides good QB play.

This is just my opinion but I think Baker Mayfield not being an obvious leader of the team is a knock on his teammates confidence in him. You're the #1 overall pick and a QB of a team trying to breakthrough. You need to be the leader of the team and I believe if his teammates were that confident in him he would be leading the team but he isn't now is he?

Who is the leader of this team? Do they go as Baker goes? I'm not saying his issues off the field are bigger than the ones on the field but they definitely aren't things to be dismissing so quickly. he's got to clean that up just as much as his on field play.

Now today Alex Van Pelt said that Baker gave him the silent treatment after he was pulled Sunday. Van Pelt chalked that up to Baker having passion and fire to win but that's more bullshit. Giving the silent treatment to one of your coaches after you were pulled from a game where you were hurt and playing shitty? Baker Mayfield can't be doing that. That's yet another sign of immaturity and a clear lack of leadership from a guy that's supposed to be our Franchise QB.

His decision-making isn't the issue. That's Winston's problem.

Baker's problem is that he's being confused by defenses. He throws the ball where he doesn't expect or see a defender, and they're capitalizing on those mistakes. That can be worked on and improved. Decision-making is when you see a guy covered and try to throw them open anyway. While Baker isn't the best decision maker, he's certainly not as bad as Winston.

I read that post as a list of viable candidates you'd want the Browns to look at after Mayfield. Don't try to backpedal now. There's a list of QBs who would be available that didn't make your list. And I'm saying that Winston, by your comparison of stats, is a lateral transfer - so why move on from Mayfield to get someone like that?

I strongly disagree with the bolded. I do believe that OBJ and Landry have lost confidence in him. It shows in their body language every week. Look at how they react after plays. They are visibly frustrated and it's not because they are being covered. It's because Baker can't get them the ball good enough consistently.

For one, I see nothing from Landry to indicate that.

Two, OBJ is going to act childish as long as he's not having a good game. I don't have a problem with it personally, but it seems to drive fans up a wall. How was his body language following the Dallas game? Even after the Colts game he seemed perfectly happy. So acting like teammates on a 4-2 team suddenly lost confidence in Baker is ridiculous.

You're entitled to your opinion. But Winston had a teammate calling him out and telling him to grow up. He had another teammate that intentionally omitted him from his list of leaders. His very own coach basically told him to stfu with the 'Rah Rah' stuff. That was in his 5th year.

The comparison is just silly at this point.

Edit: And to clarify... I'm perfectly fine with moving on from Baker if he plays like shit for the rest of the year and the replacement is better or has more potential. I think almost everyone is. Not sure why that's fueling your crusade to argue, but meh.

If I listed Lindor replacement options for the Indians and started with Carlos Baerga, I don't think I could get away defending myself by claiming "What??? It's just a list!"

When you assemble a list of starting quarterback options, the assumption is that you belive these guys are options to start at quarterback.

Thinking Jameis Winston is an actual option to start at qb is an awful take... and right on brand.

Lol, right? I thought I was going crazy or something.

I could probably talk myself into Ryan Fitzpatrick if only for the entertainment factor. Plus the weekly roller coaster that is wondering if you're going to get MVP-caliber Fitzmagic who throws for 500 yards and four touchdowns or Fitztragic that throws for 140 yards and five interceptions.

Honestly, I want to know how the hell he hasn't been a Brown yet. Trade for him and let him ride out the season in glorious fashion while we bench Baker. More entertaining than watching baker struggle with the same things every week.

Fuck it. I'm in.

Fitzmagic may be the greatest of streaming QBs, and an all-time place-keeper, but even he as standards.

Something that really sticks out in these clips is how long Baker has to throw. He seemingly has enough time to eat a sandwich before getting the ball out.

Yeah, most of these Baker throws there’s no one within 10 feet of him. He also has a 2nd round draft pick at RB, I think a 1st and 2nd Rd WR, and a 3rd rd TE.

It’s also crazy to watch Mahomes in this video with how he’s translated to the NFL. Every single thing he was doing in college has translated to the pros and he’s only getting better.

Someone photoshopped the NFL QB’s to be women.....https://cinemills.tv/top-nfl-quarterbacks-as-women/

Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Baker Mayfield has a lot of pressure on his shoulders as the new hope of the Cleveland Browns. While the franchise has continued to struggle for success, Mayfield immediately got the fans behind him when he led the Browns to their first victory in 19 games. That was his first appearance for the Browns, and now fans in Cleveland are looking at football games with some optimism. As a woman, it seems as though Mayfield was destined to be a star, and he looks like he’s at a press conference for his latest album release here.
