after the few weeks of tough news of players leaving for one reason or another, it seems Thad is dedicating himself on building the team with mostly Ohio born players that he won alot of games with before. He met with a 2018 recruit who told someone in an interview

"Coach Matta talked about it when we met. He thinks his better teams were predominantly Ohio players," Cohill said. "Maybe that says something because the guys from Ohio know this is the state's team, so it means something when they put the jersey on their chest."

And as of right now he's seeming to work on alot of 2017-2019 Ohio kids, they already have Dane Goodwin in 2018 who's dominating the Nike Camps, Cohil mentioned above is also supposed to be a good prospect, they just offered scUM from Massillion verbal Kyle Young and WGH F Derek Culver who has offers from UF and Kansas and UConn, plus they already have some Ohio 2016 kids locked up.

I think seeing the basketball team with more Ohio kids was more fun to watch, not everyone is going to be an Aaron Craft but you see more pride in their play.

Great take.

new staff on fire

Love it.

Really solid defensive player, and great athlete. Also has an impressive offensive game to go with it--skilled slasher with a quickly developing shooting stroke. Just what we needed--Dane who?

Well, that all escalated quickly. Muhammad was a huge get--a true defensive difference maker with an efficient offensive game. Love him as a bouncy 6'4 two who can play a little spot duty at point if necessary. He's also a pretty good perimeter shooter. There's not a glaring weakness with him.

Washington, the nephew of Derek Fisher, is much better than his three star rating. He is smooth and steady with the ball. He plays the game with a nice pace. At 6'3, he's going to be a nice combo guard at Ohio State.

I think we are also going to land Weaver soon as well, which would be quite a class. Top ten, perhaps.

It should be evident at this point on what that "mutual" decommitment with Watson entailed.

LeDee has a college ready body. He's grown significantly the past few years, which now has him with that 6'8-6'9 size but the floor game of a wing. He'll probably play stretch four at Ohio State. I like him a lot. He seems to really be physical down low while also being able to pull big guys out wide with his developing range and beat them off the dribble.

I wasn't sure if this was going to be a four or five man class, but I think Udeze would be a take as well to give us a true big man.

Holtmann has it looking up. If we truly are in this kind of situation with Weaver, Ahrens is not a take.

Another one...

And I still like their chances to grab one of Elijah Weaver or Andrew Nembhard

For the record, we now have the 9th rated class for 2018 according to 247.

If we were to get Weaver (which he just finished his official visits), we would move to the 2nd rated class in the country for 2018 should things all stay equal.

I'm hopeful, but a recent trend of crystal ball's to USC over the past 3 days has me worried.

Which they won't since all the big boys don't get their classes locked up until after the early signing period.

Still, Holtmann and crew have done a great job addressing some key areas of need this cycle. Hopefully they can land one more guard (be it Weaver, Nembhard or someone else) since Holt likes to run a lot of three guard lineups. I'm guessing they'll also be players for a big man on the grad transfer market and in 2019. That still looks like a big need going forward.

Absolutely, right on the money.

However, I think this class would finish between 5-10 if they get Weaver.

Well...

Weaver's lead recruiters at both Okie State and USC are currently under federal investigation...

Have to think that plays a role in his upcoming choice...kind of similar to Bruce Pearl's issues towards the end of his tenure at Tennessee pushing Aaron Craft to us.

Was hoping the same thing, Bimbo. We'll see.

As of a few days ago, there was talk that he was going to move up his decision. I would have to think that may change now? Unless it's moving up because it's now down to us or Florida--in which case, I like our odds.

I've always been under the impression that Florida and OSU split Nembhard and Weaver. One will end up at one school, the other at the other school.

But Weaver has become OSU's lone priority after all the recent commitments, and I'm guessing they are going to use this situation to their advantage.

Weaver would be a huge get for Holtmann and his 3 guard system. Only guard type he's missing in this class is a lead guard.

Completely agree. Some talk as if the number of guards we are taking in this class would scare him off.

I think it's the opposite when you look at this roster. Kam Williams is a senior, CJ will be a senior when these guys come in, and the only other guard is Jallow. In order to run this system, we need a guy like Weaver. I look at Muhammad as more of a two-guard who is stout defensively, and Washington as a combo guard.

I think the staff has let him know he's the key to this whole vision--and in this case, it's true.
