Hey, guys.

With all of the time some of us Cavs' fans have been using lately discussing draft prospects and the NBA off-season, it got me thinking about how I could create a simulation game where players would have a chance to be the General Manager. Over the last couple weeks I have built a first-version of this game and I was hoping to find a few people who would be willing to play along and be a GM of a team in the league.

I'll be running the league mostly through a Google Spreadsheet and this thread. I'd like to get at least a few people taking over teams. It wouldn't take too long and I would likely be running about one game per day once the season starts. It would just be cool to get some people who were fairly engaged in it and checking it once a day.

If you are interested in helping me test this game out, I'm going to leave a list of the 12 professional league teams in this thread. Once you've decided what team you'd like to be the GM of, I will give you your roster information and let you know how the next steps of the process will go. This might be kind of clunky at first, but I think, overall, it could end up being a pretty fun GM simulation game.

Teams in the league:

New York Empire - Jeremy
Los Angeles Wave - Dano_24_26
Chicago Fusion - Simon
Houston Jets
Philadelphia Freedom - TripleThreat
Pheonix Fury
Detroit Dragons - NtG
Indiannapolis Lightning
Jacksonville Tigers - Lokis friend
Columbus Pioneers - Loki478
Memphis Bears - gijimbo
Baltimore Braves

Let me know if you are interested and if you would like to take over one of the franchises. I have also created a 40-team college league and 8 foreign teams. I'm playing through "March Madness" right now and working on some of the mock draft stuff. Once I get enough teams, we should be able to do the draft and start getting ready for the season.

I'd love to get any sort of feedback and help from you guys, and I will also likely participate in the league if you guys don't mind.

Thanks for your time.

I got a player to take the New York franchise. Working on the google spreadsheet now. March Madness is in the Sweet Sixteen as well and I'm playing through that.

I'm interested. Sounds pretty cool. I'll take the L.A. Wave if avaliable.

Sweet. If you can pm me your e-mail address, I can get you a link to the google spreadsheet we are using so that you can look at your team's roster and get prepped for the draft. I'll PM you some other info as well.

I'll update the original post with who is taking what team.

I will take the Columbus Pioneers. How long do you expect the "season" to last?

At this point, it's sort of just testing. I was hoping we could come to some sort of agreement on how long.

I was thinking the season would probably end up being around 20-25 games, with playoffs being 3 or 5 games series.

Then if people were interested, I could further expand the program so we could move on to the next season. Right now, every player in the pro league has a contract (between 1-3 years) and an amount of cap points against them (40 points is the max contract). Each team has a salary cap of 200 to work with from year to year.

EDIT: As far as real time goes, I am going to try to have each team play one game a day. Sometimes I may do more at once, sometimes I'll do less. The season would probably take around a month.

This is pretty cool. Nice job. My team is looking pretty old...this could be my second job. Hahah. Thanks again

I appreciate it! Let me know if you have any questions at all. I'm working on really improving from this build, so all suggestions are definitely welcome.

Some intriguing college match-ups going on tomorrow. If you look under the mock draft tab at the bottom, you can find the draft order this offseason.

EDIT: I just looked at your squad. You have two guys who are 99 from three point! That could come in handy haha.

Hahah I know. The one is 38 though...I got a young one on the bench though and like a couple in college haha

What is the category after perimeter defense? It has a blank tile

Potential. It's marked for the top team but not the rest. I'll fix that.

I did notice that your team is one of the older teams. I'm interested to see how you build them.

On the pro rosters I think you have the first and last names mixed up. How in depth is this. I'm a little confused. My coach's pace is a 54 will it help if I get a post offensive player and work with my coaches stats like that?

Yeah, those are mixed up. I'll go back and fix that in a bit if I have time.

As for a coach's pace, that will directly control how many possessions a game your team will have. If you have an athletic team that is good at playing uptempo, then a coach with higher pace would be the best. 20 is the lowest pace in the game and 80 is the fastest.

The game goes pretty in depth, but basically all of it is just testing for me. I've made this game in the past just with friends and we played it kind of like a board game, I tweaked some formulas and have it so that way I can run games in just a couple minutes now through my spreadsheet.

Cool. What about firing/hiring coaches? Looking at the prospects, are their stats gonna roll over to the pros the same? Bc most of the prospects are better then my whole team hahah. This is gonna be fun. Hopefully everyone stays committed and you keep it up!
