Beer snob thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I need someone to ship me beers to Toronto. Reading and researching them after looking through some of the breweries noted in the election thread (which no comment since I can't say anything there either)... I look forward to driving down in a year or two when all this craziness is over. Toronto has some alright breweries but I feel like Montreal, Vermont, Upstate NY, parts of Colorado and Columbus seem to be the top spots.

If ever in Phoenix, Huss brewery has an amazing Koffee Kolsh. I know I was over Coffee beers years ago too, but this one is different made from a German Kolsh which tastes allot like Belgium beers but with a coffee base.

Its amazing. But yeah, great beer scene here for sure.

Anyone else still in the game? It's taken my life over. Also, I'm into Bourbon now. During quarantine, I managed to get my hands on a bunch of Weller Antique, some Blantons, got a GTS '19, and a 7-year Willett to go along with some Elmer T. Lee I got a couple of years ago.

Yep, although quarantine has slowed me down. I was checking in about 500 different beers a year on Untappd. Pretty sure that's slowed to a crawl without being able to go out to breweries.

Had a bunch of really good Bruery beers. My brother's friend is in their club. I have one left and then I'm joining my wife in going dry for a while.

You should check out our Sophisticated Drinking thread in EAYOR for Bourbon

Still here. Was wondering where you've been lol. Don't see you check stuff in on Untappd or see you post much on RCF anymore.

2020 and quarantining had it's pros and cons for beer. Pros were limited release stuff went virtual instead of spending hours waiting in lines, sometimes in shitty weather. Plus the addition of most breweries allowing proxies. I was able to get my hands on some great stuff from my laptop without driving anywhere and/or waiting in line. That's not even mentioning seeing breweries like Equilibrium, The Veil, and others shipping to Ohio now. The cons were obviously bars/breweries being closed for a period of time. And even still in some cases. Living in Toledo, our local brewery scene is total ass, so the wife and I like to make day trips to Cleveland, Columbus, Athens, Ann Arbor, etc. Covid kind of killed that last year. For example, I've really been wanting to hit up Crooked Pecker and Missing Mountain on the east side but they're both 2.5 hours from me and they're open like a grand total of 10 hours a week. And they may only be doing curbside pickups right now even. It sucks.

I'm also more into bourbon now than a year ago, to an extent. I was able to get my hands on some bottles of Blantons (store picks), Buffalo Trace (store picks), Eagle Rare, and OWA this year. I always participate in the lotteries for the super rare stuff but never win. I refuse to camp out places overnight for special drops or pay secondary. I don't know how it is up your way but we get OWA a couple times a month here so whenever I see it I buy a bottle to stock up. It trades ridiculously well in other states and for me it's more or less a feeder for my craft beer hobby. I've been able to land some big BA stout bottles just by grabbing OWA off a shelf and shipping it.

Otherwise, between Hoof, Masthead, and HOMES a few local buddies and I take turns muling releases. I've got a steady trading partner in NY so always have a stream of Other Half, Equilibrium, Mortalis, and Evil Twin NYC cans and bottles coming in. Also did the Jackie O's Imperial Scouts membership last year which has been great (and expensive). I know Jackie O's is sort of considered "old money" these days since they aren't doing pastry stouts and heavily fruited sours like other breweries have started doing, but they still put out some damn good beer and will always have a soft spot for me.

My 2020 was atrociously busy and 2021 is looking the same, but I miss this place for sure. I work in HRIS at a hospital that had not been doing remote work ever before... We've got 2 HRIS folks in an organization of 8000. Haven't been on Untappd in a long time, but rest assured, I'm still here drinking. Been buying the Drie releases on the regular; had to get a wine rack to hold my lambic collection (~100 bottles). My back fridge has all of my stouts and things that need kept cold. Right now, the "cellar" combined is sitting around 200 beers.

I'm in a fantasy football league each year, which has landed me an STL proxy.. Got 18 Side Project beers headed my way (inc. BBT 2020) atop my American Solera member stuff. Joined Dysfunctional Delights Meadery (Lebanon, Ohio) about a year ago & it's paying-off now with more mead than I can drink. Also, I just this week joined Westbound & Down in Denver. So... I'm still all in.

As bourbon goes, I'm still fairly novice, but I'm wise enough to know to grab Antique when I see it every time. I've been trading some of that as well.. I miss the lotto stuff as well mostly, but I don't mind not having the stress/anxiety of having to hunt or cozy up to some eccentric liquor store owner.

IF you come down to the Cleveland area to go to some breweries, let me know! I live 5 minutes away from Crooked Pecker.

Founders up in Grand Rapids has some really outstanding darker beers if that's your thing. Don't know much about the IPA's because I don't drink that crap.

I'm not sure how to broach this topic without coming across like a dick, but bringing up Founders in the beer snob thread would be like bringing up this obscure basketball player Kevin Durant is in GenPop.

Founders is one of the largest breweries in the country. They're available practically anywhere that sells beer.

Their KBS used to be one of the most sought-after stouts, but to me it's fallen off just a little bit, while everyone else has gotten significantly better. I'll still have it or it's variants a few times a year. My favorite Founders is a mix--2/3rds Breakfast Stout, 1/3 Rubaeus.

Guess I'll just take my leave and head to a bar with fewer dicks then.

That's rough.... glad to see you back though!

Damn, that's a lot of Lambic lol. I'm not a huge sour guy mainly because a lot of it gives me really bad acid reflex and heartburn... but I do have some Casey, Side Project, and a few Cantillon in my cellar. I'd say you're deeper into it than me at the moment. It can be a very time consuming hobby so props to you for being so active while drowning with work. I usually just have a beer or two a night and it's usually an IPA, stout, or fruited sour can. Weekends and beer shares (despite covid I've still attended a few) is when bigger bottles get opened.

I guess where you go all out for Lambic I'm that way with mead with probably around 100 bottles in my cellar between Schramms, Four Fires, Manic, and some OG B Nektar's. For as awful as NW Ohio craft beer scene is it is nice to be 10 minutes away from Four Fires and an hour from Schramms. Unfortunately, both also ship out of state now so that kills my secondary trade value haha.

You're going to love BBT if you haven't already had it. I also was fortunate enough to land a BBT 2020. Probably one of the best beers I drank in all of 2020 was BBT 2019. It's just so good.

I'll for sure let you know if I'm out that way. I think the last big brewery event I took part in was Masthead's anniversary release last January. Sucks we wont get one this year. Another bummer with all this COVID shit was this was going to be my first year doing Tampa beer week. Anyway, I do have a lot of work projects in the Cleveland area. I've been able to try about 15-20 Crooked Pecker over the last half of 2020 because I had a project in Warrensville and would meet up with this dude whenever I was up there to swap some HOMES and Hoof cans for CP stuff. If you pickup CP can releases and are interested in any of that stuff let me know and maybe we can set something up to meet and trade.

wow, some activity in this thread!

great recommendation by @The Human Q-Tip for dark beers. Founders does some absolutely amazing stuff, their KBS line is routinely ranked in the top 100 beers. EAT That ASS: fuck you @Out of the Rafters at the Q :chuckle:

If you are into Nitros (smaller bubbles lead to a smoother beer), then Southern Tier almost constantly has at least one out worth trying, but all of their beers are recommended.

I was up to 1000 beers on uptapped over a 2 year period, then 2020 hit and I just completely forgot about it. My only recent check ins were a Bruery beer (the maple stout), Lone Pine Breweing (Portland maine) World's best boss (an incredibly smooth stout), and 2018 Big Bad Batista from Epic Brewing I have been sitting on.

A great idea for all of your beer drinkers: Every November my wife and I put together a Beer advent calendar. We just go through the store picking up single bottles/cans of whatever strikes our fancy then set it up as an advent calendar. Its a great way to try a bunch of different things.

I’m about 10 minutes down the road in Solon, I love Crooked Pecker. I try to make it to most releases, although I’ve decided to take a small drinking break to help my waistline. But they’ve been making some fantastic stuff.

I've had all of the BBTs prior to this year (17, 18, 19). I've got a 20 coming and have Rye BBT & TWCP Derivation waiting for COVID to end, so I can share with some friends. I'm also sitting on a 17 Maman, CBC Maman, & 3 2020 Mamans. I love me some non-adjuncted BA stouts. Before I started drinking all of them, I had 45 Voodoo Black Magicks/Zangiefs. Booze has been almost the only thing I've done outside of work.

Nice! My wife & I bought a house in Chagrin about 6 years ago. I try to make it up to Pecker on canning days, but it's been hard to get free time. We have a 13-month old who has been there a few times, but it's harder to do now that he won't sit still (this is another reason I've been away from RCF).

Thank goodness the Cavs are back to give me some entertainment more than once per week.

I still haven’t tried Maman somehow. I need to get on that.
