Beer snob thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was a big fan of their sours early-on. They did a series of 12 or so sour/Gose/Berliner style beers a few years back and I would seek each of the series out (Disco Gosefather was one).

When the "Martian" beers came out, it was just after they got the ol' cease & desist from Icee for copying their logo. Think the beer became the Martian line.
Best gose I've had in the area is still Terrestrial's Porco Painkiller Gose.

For sure one of my favorite styles. Akronym had a collaboration that was a key lime pie gose that was good, if you're looking for the crazy, out-there ones.

@Out of the Rafters at the Q I also see that Missing Mountain is tapping a new sour this weekend
They’re also tapping a keg of one of their BA variants of their stout, We’re Not Mad Just Disappointed. It’s the Buffalo Trace Experimental Wheated Whiskey barrel aged one. There should be a lot of good beers tapping around the area with the Winter Warmer Cask Day happening Saturday.

@browniebob My girlfriend and I bottled our Dead Ringer today. I was a little disappointed though, as we only got 6 bottles filled. We were in the middle of bottling our 7th and it just wasn’t filling anymore. I had her try picking the fermenter up and tilting it, but it looked like a bunch of the build up at the bottom was making its way into the tube. It must have been clogging up, because we tried for like 5 minutes to continue filling the bottle and it just wouldn’t budge.

When you did Dead Ringer how many bottles did you fill? I have read online that usually 1 gallon batches get around 12 bottles usually. We could maybe have gotten to 8 or 9 if not for all the gunk at the bottom clogging our line, so I’m curious if I did something wrong during the brewing process. I added a photo of what it looked like after fermentation was a few days in.

That sounds about on par for what I got unfortunately. From that photo it looks like you did things well and it fermented as it should. That thick foam on the top is what you want.

The waste is worst thing about 1 gallon batches. They're quick and convenient, but there's always a high percentage of waste, especially with the extra hops of an IPA. Something like an amber, or blonde ale will probably be the most "efficient" when it comes to lack of waste.

I'm worried that the Hazy IPA I'm fermenting now is going to only give me 4-5. It has two dry hop additions, so that will just add to the sludge at the bottom.

Honestly, I've liked around 1 out of every 6 beers I've tried from Platform. As in, that one was decent, and the rest were trash. I stopped trying a while ago though.

I try to gobble up Jackie O's sours when available, but generally I outsource for most sours. Cascade, New Glarus fruited sours (big pain to get), Brewery, and of course Cantillon. But this sure runs up the tab. $$$$$$

I need to get to Lizardville ASAP.

Does Lizardville ever get their hands on New Glarus stuff?

New Glarus isn’t distributed outside Wisconsin.
That's what I figured. The Lizardville comment must have been in reference to the other breweries mentioned.

People don’t respect Drie Fonteinen nearly enough around here. Now that’s a brewery that’s available and making some of the best lambic in the world.. For now.

This is beautiful :love heart:. Personal favorites are Vigneronne and Fou' Foune. But I like the pucker. lol.
It doesn't get much better than being in Switzerland for work, on a beautiful summer evening, and sitting outside alone with a nice beer.

Oh, and that place had Hoppin Frog on tap! They knew the owner. We chatted for a bit about Fred and how I was from Cleveland. I was at that place every night. Only place in Bern with great beer.

Alright, I’ll take some heat.

I’m 27, and I hate beer. Hate it. Hate everything about it. But... I’m forcing myself to drink it to develop my palate and willingness to not be a square. I’m going head first. Personal mission.

I drank this shandy thing my fiancé likes, and it was t atrocious. I’ve ruled out sour ales. I tried this one from Sierra Nevada, and it was ass but I didn’t feel like it was overwhelmingly bitter. Looking for recs that I can get relatively easily, and without going to a brewery. Someone point me in the direction.

Edit: Also, I had something called Orange Blossom- it was terrible. It’s a hugely popular beer in AZ, and while the bitterness is tampered, the Orange “flavor” coats your throat and it’s really unpleasant. I have a chocolate stout and another popular local IPA that I’ll force a few sips on.
