Beer snob thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Guys... I found one that’s like a 6!

Crispy by Shop Beer Co. it’s a blonde lager. 10 IBU.
That's awesome! Did you go there, or just pick that up from a store?

The generic label slapped on it is "blonde lager" but the brewery says it's their take on a Japanese Rice Lager, to give you something more specific.

I know Mikkeller does a Japanese Rice Lager. I'd try that out and see if you like it as well if you see it. Try to figure out what you like--the slightly different flavor of the rice, or the crispness of the beer.

I have a question for you--what is your favorite shitty light beer? How would you rank like Coors Light, Miller Lite, Bud Light?

I got it at Trader Joe’s!

If I had to rank the shitty light beers, they all rank the same. They taste like piss smells. Even in college, I just made my own water bottles full of liquor/Gatorade. I truly never really approached beer until I was like... 23/24? And quit really quickly, and then have largely abstained from drinking.

This one was legit okay- I’m thinking if I can find something similar, but with fruit or citrus qualities, I might be golden. It was also like 90, so I didn’t finish it which brings me to question two.

If I want to enjoy a beer in the heat, how the fuck can I keep it cold?

I asked the light beer question because I know Bud Light uses rice as a fermentation aid. I was wondering if you had a preference towards Bud Light over the other two that don't use rice. Good to know it makes no difference to you.

I think you're going to be hard-pressed to find beers that go for this style and add in fruit/citrus. Typically, over here we brew these styles to showcase the grain, or the crispness and purity of the beer. I'm trying to think of refreshing citrusy beers and my mind's only running to IPA's, or all the way back to the other end with wheat beers. Maybe someone else can chime in. Just for shits and giggles, have you ever tried Bells Oberon? Throw an orange slice in there if you want.

You could also try Firestone Walker 805 if you ever see it around you. I don't know if they're more popular in Arizona than out here, but I know that's a good blonde ale from a fantastic brewery.

How to keep a beer cold? Fuck if I know--I like beer, and I like flavor, so I'm usually trying to warm it up! On a serious note, a coozy is obviously the first option. Insulation means the outside air heats up the can and the liquid more slowly. If you want to move from just insulation to active cooling, throw a stopper in the bottle and throw it on ice. Or, a practical tip--the liquid will change temperature more quickly when it has less volume. So once you start getting towards the bottom, drink it quicker (or the flip-side, take your time with the top portion, because that's when it can keep its cool the longest).

With you talking about citrus, I've always enjoyed a Blue Moon with a orange slice into the bottle. Don't know if that would be something up your alley or not. I'm more of a amber, wheat lager drinker, so it fits right into my wheel house.

Unrelated, just tried Bell's Bright White which was a nice find for me.

Will you commit on going on a beer tour with me sometime or is your anxiety to great to do that in public?

O shit, one that might be up your alley @DJTJ is Hitachino White Ale.

Over the weekend we checked out Mad Cap and Northwater Brewing in Kent. Northwater is just getting started, but their beer was pretty solid. We had a flight with a NEIPA, blonde ale, amber and a coconut stout which I surprisingly enjoyed. Very cozy spot too right by the river.

The NEIPA I had at Mad Cap was very good too. Their indoor space needs a few windows or extra lightning though.

Has anybody been to Hansa in Ohio City? I'm a sucker for German food and beer, but covid has slowed down a lot of my Cleveland restaurant trips.

I finally tried my Fat Tire copycat homebrew last night. I think it turned out better than OG Fat Tire and reminds me more of Conway’s Irish Ale from Great Lakes. I’ll definitely be buying more recipe kits from Craft a Brew.

I visited the Phoenix area last weekend and stopped by Pedalhaus brewing in Tempe and Goldwater Brewing in Scottsdale. Pedalhaus had one of the coolest patios I've ever seen. I imagine it would be a super fun place for a big game.

Goldwater had a nice biergarten area as well. I thought the beers were better at Pedalhaus, but both places were a lot of fun.

Last weekend we took advantage of the great weather and tried Ignite Brewing in Barberton and Magic City Brewing in Akron.

Magic City has the punk rocker, biker vibe kind of like Mad Cap in Kent (which isn't my go to vibe at all), but they know how to make a NEIPA. I was pretty impressed. I tried my first pastry stout which was way too sweet for me, but maybe that's the style? Not something I'd seek out again. Their kitchen smelled very good and the photos on their instagram have me drooling.

Ignite was definitely more our scene. Massive patio with plenty of seating and corn hole boards. Plus garage doors opening up the interior. They had a very diverse beer variety and everything on our flights was very good, but our favorite was just their classic American lager "Memory Lane." Very refreshing and flavorful which can be tough to do with lagers.

Anybody else tried anywhere, or anything new?

For those of you in Cleveland, is Saucy Brew Works any good? Apparently they're opening a location in Charlotte.

They are not good for the beer snob thread. They certainly aren't going to compete with the elite craft beer scene in NC.

But, for a beer and pizza joint? They're pretty good. Their pizza is good, and their sour blonde was actually a really nice, enjoyable beer. I'd give it a 3.75 on Untappd, and would gladly drink it all day. That's the best beer I've ever had from them.

Go there for an interesting, slightly overpriced pizza, with like honeycomb and sriracha on it. Then notice they also make their own beer. Don't think of them as a brewery or you'll be turned off by them.
