We could likely offer a very good trade package for him if we wanted. Collin Sexton and our first likely gets it done easy. But i could also see other options that don’t involve our pick(which i believe is untouchable btw).

Is there a way he’d fit BASKETBALL WISE? Because i just can’t see a way unless we give up on Jarrett Allen and really run Love at the 5 full time and Ben at the 4.

To me he wouldn’t fit even if we could get him here.

Your second sentence ended the conversation for me. I was ready to talk about how Simmons could be used at the 4 in PnR situations as a roller and off-ball as a diver off back screens, but if you want to give up Sexton *AND* #3, it's not a conversation worth having.

We don't have the spacing. For all the talk about how hard it is to build around Sexton, building around Simmons is worse. I think his inability to shoot is a more fatal flaw than Sexton's size. There are big playmakers, there is no way to get Simmons to shoot well.

If we trade for Simmons, we can't give up Sexton, Garland, or our #3 pick. All those will be essential to cover for Simmons. You would want Simmons to be our point forward probably starting at PF. Allen becomes a questionable fit because we will need another shooter.

If we can send Love and a future picks it could make sense. There will be alot of retooling needed to make it all work.

Also remember Simmons is a Klutch client. Are they going to be fine sending Simmons to us to potential hurt Garland's dollar value?

We have a winner ;)

There is some alternate universe where we get the #1 pick, take Cade and then do something like trade Sexton, Love and a future 1st for Simmons. Where the trio of Garland / Cade / Simmons is pretty devastating skill wise and provides the combination spacing necessary to make it work.

But where we are at now? I just don't see it. Even with Simmons and Garland, we still are a ways away from competing. And if we don't compete, it is going to be really tough to both keep happy and retain someone like Simmons, when he is a FA at what? 28 years old?

Seems like the Cavs are still a year away from exploring this type of trade. Where we try to really accelerate the rebuild.

Seems to me that the time for doing this deal to pick up Simmons was about a year ago... when we would have had time to fix whatever is broken with his motivation.

As people have already said, Simmons hasn't gotten any better, Sexton got better all year, and the pick i would have given up ended up #3.

So yeah, pass.

Simmons isn’t “broken“. He just doesn’t have motivation. Five years to work on offensive skills and he’s accomplished zero. Nothing.

He hasn’t been motivated on that team with legitimate championship chances but he’ll be motivated on the Cavaliers?

He drove Brett Brown nuts and is driving Doc nuts but Koby and JBB can fix him?

HARD pass. I wouldn’t want him at 1/2 the contract he has now.

Not a great fit basketball wise, but other than that he could be pretty good.

I think the simplest way to think about it is Simmons needs shooters and apparently now he needs ball handlers who want the ball at the end of the game. We have one ball handler with killer instinct in Sexton and we basically lack shooters. If we can trade away non-shooters and ball handlers to get Simmons than it might work, other wise it's just set up to fail. How are we going to trade for both a closer and shooters after getting Simmons?

So basically you need to have a superteam, and then if everything goes according to plan, then it may be possible to add Simmons to your superteam without destroying it :chuckle:

Might not be a fit here but i think it goes without saying if the Cavs could get involved
in a 3 way deal that sends a true 3 here count me in on that.
