Ben Simmons? Is he a fit basketball wise?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
KPJ and Windler were 30th and 26th picks, respectively.

Hardly “setbacks” to have picks at that level fail to produce.

Well, my point was that pretty much everything needs to go right for a rebuild to happen so fast. If KPJ was killing it on our team and Windler was Duncan Robinson, the outlook on the rebuild would be much different.

I think those are setbacks. People act like Koby Hates wings, but he drafted 2 talented ones in 2019 and another the following year. He drafted as many wings as all other positions combined.

Keldon Johnson is still on people's minds, but if you asked me prior to last year, even with WIndler's leg, if I would take Johnson over Windler + Porter jr, I would have said no. Seems like a no brainer now.

Look at the Hawks. You need to hit on late picks like John Collins and Kevin Huerter to speed up that rebuild.

Ugh that’s just terrible so all 3 of our decent shooters for someone who can’t even shoot free throws? I don’t understand how this type of trade makes us any better

Love is a negative asset.
Sexton we probably don't want to pay.
Windler will probably get hurt again.

If the picks are heavily protected, I personally would roll the dice.

I think our ceiling is higher with Simmons than it is with Sexton.....and I don't love Ben.

The big hangup, for me is, does he even want to be here though?

It makes sense if he is committed to starting over and likes Cleveland as a destination.......but just on a whim.....it is a lot of money and enough draft compensation that you have to be really sure.

Whatever happens I doubt SImmons is the answer with Allen Okoro and Mobley on the floor with him seems like a dumb idea

How does that pass the Stepien Rule? Do we have an extra FRP in 22 or 23 that I don't know about?
That was my thought/question when I heard Windhorst report it on NBA TV….

Maybe he meant a FRP swap?? I dunno, I'm gonna go ahead and ease my mind by telling myself it's all bullshit.

I really like the defensive potential but someone needs to learn to shoot the ball in that grouping.

Maybe something like:
Garland/Sexton
Okoro
Ben
Lauri
Mobley

Not sure how Allen fits into this either. No way we can play Okoro, Ben, Mobley, and Allen at the same time. They would run out of room in the paint.

I think Okoro or Allen would have to be moved to remedy the bad spacing.

Here's what Sam The Bullshit Whisperer had to say about the subject in a recent article:

I have mixed feelings about Simmons on the Cavs. On one hand, he would immediately become their best player, an All-Star in a season in which Cleveland is hosting the game. He is still young (25) and under contract. He is an excellent perimeter defender on a team that could use even just a decent one.
And for all the talk about his shooting, his 56 percent career mark is better than anyone else’s on the Cavs aside from Jarrett Allen. And Allen is a center. Simmons can play point guard, point forward and power forward.

Don't know if this was already added but Shaq pretty much says it all here as to why you don't
give up value for Simmons

I like the idea of potentially a big 3 of Garland, Mobley, and Simmons. That is one hell of a core. It will be difficult to hold on to Garland in any trade but if Koby can pull it off then I think it's a no-brainer.

Reshuffle the rest of roster and after a couple years of development the Cavs could be competing for a title.

Simmons shoots 56% because he’s afraid to take any shot outside of 10 feet! (Even closer in during the playoffs, apparently)
imo Simmons is worth less to this roster than anyone the Cavs have that Philly would want so its not practical to trade for his defense or playmaking anyway given how many good basketball plays he passes up because of said inability to shoot and unwillingness to be embarrassed because of his lack of work on those weakness'

So the question now is WHO IS THE SMALL MARKET TEAM that has made a huge offer to Philly for Simmons as reported by Marc Stein.

Orlando maybe? I don't know why they would but it seems like a Magic type move to try to get Simmons. And they did take Fultz off of Phillys hands.

LOL at "a magic type move"

they should trade Fultz back to the Sixers for Simmons. Trust the process!

But it's still Rich driving the trade train, and may even being putting Maxey on it with Simmons. Ben has said he wants to be in a big market. The concern isn't about his play, it's about his "player empowerment" getting in the way. It could work out 1000% well. It could also fail miserably. Based on what we know to be true, I'm not sure it's a great decision based on chemistry/morale/culture.

If it doesn't work out, it's a bad move. If it does work out, he plays better, and his stock shoots up, he'll try to force his way out to some west coast team because that's where he really want be. We're only a temporarily acceptable destination because he wants the fuck out of Philly.

If Rich Paul has the kind of ultimate control over his clients that some folks are claiming, LBJ would never have left. So I don't believe for a moment that we should trust in Rick Paul as the guarantor of Simmons not eventually pulling the same shit here that he did in Philly
