Billy Preston: Most likely the next LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Preston is a guy who looked like he never had even watched a basketball game. He had no idea what to do with his obvious skills and talent. What a waste.

What is with us always picking up these mid-twenties-year-old players, as our two-way players?
At that age, they're close enough to their prime that they probably aren't going to get that much better.
I'd rather swing big and go for someone who is really raw but has more upside, than someone who is clearly an AAAA player.

I get the Blossomgame signing more than the Jones signing. Blossomgame only was drafted last year and started late at Clemson due to a broken leg that protruded at the end of his high school career. So his development was set back two years due to this.

The Spurs took an interest and drafted him. I think he is more intriguing than Harrison and Harrison is unneeded with the return of Hill and acquisition of Burks.

Ditching Preston for Jones is a head scratcher. But hard for us to know everything behind the scenes. Maybe he's not putting in the effort and the org knows.

Even so, I'd be more interested in giving Colson that two-way than Jones. He's shown potential and works hard. I don't want someone else seeing him as a solid developmental guy and grabbing him.

Well.. I had a lot banking on this guy. Not sure what to do with all these throwbacks I had created for when he figured it out.

While I don't disagree, its so rare that a G-League turns into anything useful that I don't see the point of putting allot of thought into this.

Maybe change the title to "Most Likely the Next Lenny Cooke"?

Yeesh all of the hope from the summer time has vanished. It now appears that Cedi won't be an all-star. Love is never gonna be Timberwolves Love again. Ante isn't the white Shaq. And now diamond in the rough Billy Preston can't even hang on a G League squad.

I thought the two way contract was good for a prospect like Preston but with how it's designed, it doesn't make sense for guys to sign them if they aren't getting NBA days. I wish they were just prorated to get paid their unused NBA days thru out the season. Like Billy Preston should get paid 1/4 of his NBA days money by this point in the season. You figure players are counting on that NBA money when they sign the contract.

I hope Adam Silver tweaks the two way contract in the near future. If GMs start using it as a 45 day NBA contract or just to hold the rights of a G-league player without having to pay the NBA money like Koby has done so far, it will never draw in the interest from players to stop them from going to Europe. What's the point if to sign it if you are going to make 70k in the G-league regardless and only be able to be called up by one team. It needs to just be a 250k G-league contract that allows for 45 days in the NBA.

It was worth a shot. But if he not on track to be useful next year, you let him find another home.. I also think we need to be targeting power forwards/ centers..

With the sheer number of guards it looks like we are trying to pick one and build from there..

I was trying to thing of the appropriate eulogy for Billy Preston. I suspect that this move had little to do with his basketball skills, or his lack of basket ball skills. We will probably see him back in Canton on a standard G-league contract if it wasn't a disciplinary move.

While the Cavs recognize Preston's untapped potential and the inherent risk in letting him go, he hasn't been able to put it all together playing in Canton.

In 10 games with the Charge, Preston is averaging 6.1 points on 35 percent shooting and 42.9 percent from beyond the arc, covering 2.1 attempts per game, to go with 3.8 rebounds.

His rebounding has been disappointing. I thought that was a strength.

I do really wonder what they are going to do with all these 2 guards. What exactly is Koby up to with all these 2's? Is he shipping every wing out or what?

He probably doesn't give a shit whether we have a bunch of 2s or not. If I had to guess, I would say he's probably just trying to pick up as many talented guys he can, hoping that some of them pan out.

After we've found some talent, then we can worry about filling out all of our positional/rotation needs.

Reality can be a bitch.

Yeah but you don't want to put no thought into it. Harrison had a purpose for a time and was a nice signing that helped while Hill was gone.

Hill is back and Burks can also take some ball handling duties. So they can go get someone they think may have some upside.

Blossomgame does and has played well at that level. Don't expect him to ever develop into something, but he's a better bet than John Holland and he has a lot more offensive upside than Harrison.

Jones remains a head scratcher.
