Brandon Too GoodWIN Two Be True

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Goodwin's jumper has made a massive improvement in 3 games. If he progresses like this... Watch out Curry.

I just like what Goodwin brings to the table more than Rondo. He's a better and more energetic defender at this point. Rondo is really lazy on defense at this stage in his career. He'll get steals here and there, he can help on boards, and in crucial 1-on-1 possessions (like against Fox) he can commit himself. But he's lazy over the course of a full game. He ball watches a lot especially off the ball.

And then on offense, Goodwin is much more of a threat to penetrate, which is a really important quality for your PG to have. He's not nearly as hesitant to shoot the three as Rondo is, and despite his career 3P% opposing defenses don't seem to grant him the three like they do Rondo, which in Rondo's case really hurts team spacing. I'm not convinced Rondo's 3P% so far is remotely sustainable either. Furthermore, Rondo is really turnover prone these days while Goodwin has done a great job taking care of the ball. Finally, Goodwin just plays faster which I like, whereas Rondo tends to dribble the air out of the ball at times.

Come playoffs, I can see Rondo being more useful than Goodwin. But I really like Goodwin as the backup PG for now over Rondo.

What people are forgetting is that basketball rosters are a zero sum game.

In order for one player to be good, another player must be equally not good.

For Goodwin to be effective, Rondo in turn must be ineffective. This is the way that things are, have been, and always shall be.

Forever and ever. Amen.

This explains why we keep getting point guards with advanced skills. By feeding these guys, rubio rondo, to Garland we will create the greatest frankenpg ever. Next is sexton

I wonder what's going through Rondo's and JBB's mind. JBB will have to choose. he can't have both and Rondo is going to be pissed if he chooses the other dog.

Sure he can have both. He’s going to have one of them playing with Garland on occasion, and that will open up minutes

My only complaint about this is that someone brought up Pagnos. I had forgotten he existed for the last few days and now I everything is a lie
Pangos is the guy who will get squeezed out, not Rondo or Goodwin, and it’s about time

But I agree with the people saying Goodwin has been more impressive than Rondo. What I really like about Goodwin is that he plays within himself and shares the ball, AND he plays fast and aggressive and attacks the basket. Rare combo for a rookie guard. I’m starting to trust his decision making.

This insight has important implications for our roster.

Developing Windler is priority #1 for our team (for some people). Does your theory mean that we should fill our rosters with the shittiest wings we can find, which will mean Windler gets better?

No need to…

Kevin Pangos is bad enough to account for our entire roster.

Funny stuff, I just went through the last few pages of this thread… initially was people wanting Pangos over him and saying they don’t see anything with him and now people like him all of a sudden. :chuckle:

I think he’s exactly the type of 3rd string PG you need on a roster. Plays with energy, intensity and is a team player. Knows his strengths and weaknesses, doesn’t try to do too much… and cheap.

The people who are saying "it's a good problem to have" apparently don't know Rajon Rondo... after the trade, he literally said in the media that he looks forward to playing substantial minutes here. It's obvious that he was told he's the new backup PG, no ifs or buts.

No, it's not a "zero sum game"... but this guy is NOT going to take it well if he has to sit, healthy, while someone called Goodwin plays ahead of him. Rondo probably thought he was a ballboy or something when he joined the team.

As much as people want this team to seem like a happy family, with everyone ready to sacrifice... I'm afraid Rajon Rondo is not 2021-2022 Kevin Love.

I'll eat my crow on this if I have to, but for now, I foresee some trouble if JBB decides to roll with Goodwin (as he should).

Rondo is better than Goodwin but I like Goodwin and think he will be kept and replace Pangos on the main roster next season. I think after this season Rondo will be let go if Rubio is back
