Brandon Too GoodWIN Two Be True

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not saying Goodwin should have a long term role with the Cavs beyond this season. Besides, we may not even have a choice - if Goodwin keeps playing and shooting well for a winning team, he will have suitors.

But for now... I 100% prefer him to Rondo's broken down ass.

He's on a two-way contract, which means he is limited to being active 50 games a season. That's not a limiting factor at this point of the season, but two-way contract players also are ineligible for the postseason roster. So, unless we make a trade or release a player and open up a spot before the postseason, Goodwin is simply covering for injuries and absences at this point. As you get closer to the post-season, if he's not critical, they won't play him (other than to give a rest to some players) because they have to focus on the players who will be available later.

Not this season. They removed that rule because of covid.
No. They removed the 45 day limit because of Covid. The 50 game limit on the active list is the rule adopted because of covid and carried over to this season (fortunately, given Omicron).

• Two-Way Player Rules: For the 2021-22 season, each two-way player will be paid a flat salary equal to 50% of the minimum player salary applicable to a player with zero years of service. A player under a two-way contract will be permitted to be on the NBA team’s active list for no more than 50 games during the regular season, with no limit on practices, workouts or other activities with the NBA team. In addition, there will be no deadline for signing two-way contracts with respect to the 2021-22 season, a change from the rule in the Collective Bargaining Agreement that prohibits teams from signing a player to a two-way contract after Jan. 15 of any season.

The Covid rule was that two-way players could be active in the postseason, but that was the one Covid-related rule for two-ways that was not continued for 21-22:

One notable change from this past season will be discontinued next year, according to Marks: A player on a two-way contract won’t be eligible to play in the postseason.

This year, players on two-way contracts were permitted to be active in the playoffs, but in 2021/22, if a team wants its two-way player to be available in the postseason, he’ll have to be converted to a standard deal before the end of the regular season.

Rondo used to be those things. Now he's pretty much done. It happens to everyone in the end.

He's done nothing on this team to justify an automatic 2nd string spot. Goodwin offers much better point of attack defense, speed, and can actually put pressure on the other team.

I bet JBB is trying to figure out a way not to play Rondo at all.
You're jumping to a premature conclusion.

Give the man a chance first. Yes, Goodwin has improved noticeably and the way he can push pace is probably his most useful trait to the team, but he struggles running two-man games and getting the ball into the post. Unless one of our bigs is established and surrounded by space, Goodwin won't toss it to them; he is scared to turn it over. These are things Rondo provides.

I wouldn’t say this, Brandon. These are famous last words before something really bad happens.

Thought because he’s on a two-way we’d have some level of control and he’d be a restricted free agent

Goodwin had a big role in saving this team tonight and I think making a case for rondo to be stuffed at the end of the bench for the foreseeable future. He played with confidence and pace tonight and just might be yet another big time find by Altman.

Dylan Windler could never !

I came away more certain than ever that he's more undersized shooting guard than backup point guard. Nice guy for the end of the bench, but he had one assist tonight, fellas. He has some strengths, but he isn't going to do what Rondo can do.

That's fair. When the team is healthier Rondo might provide more use distributing to the better offensive players.

But tonight, we needed someone who could put the ball in the hole. And Rondo can't do that.
