So we all know she pled gulty today to having a weed pen. She said she accidently had it, didnt realize she had it. Do you guys feel bad for her? Do you think the US should negotiate for her release?

I mean it sucks, but she is guilty of what they are charging her of and she isnt a political prisoner, she break the law of the land. It sucks, but I am not sure it deserves all this attention.

What do you guys think?

Yeah it's injustice. She didn't hurt anyone. There are lots of stupid laws. Disgusted with how people are like "those are the rules" no matter what at this point even as the goalposts are moved

She is a political football now. What that means is justice and injustice is relative. American theories of lifestyle have nothing to do with Russian theories of justice and injustice.

And I say all of that to add Soviet thinking - and yes, I say Soviet with purpose over Russian - is backward and embarrassing.

Are you suggesting that we get to ignore the laws of other countries that we think are injust because we are Americans and thus better than those countires?

Or what doctorine are you suggesting allows us to ignore the laws we dont like of other countries?

For sure 10 yers is harsh for a weed pen, considering i use them legally here all the time. But what right do we have outside she is a famous American to tell them what laws the get to enforce in there very own country? Arent we the ones who fight for woman's rights of theor own body? Isnt the same theory they have the right to inforce the laws of their very own land.

I go back and forth on this one, they arent applying the law harsher because she is American, its there law, dont bring a weed pen to Russia.

We really don’t need a Russian arms dealer here.

Singapore has very strict drug laws.

Americans need to be careful going to other countries. If you violate the law there’s only so much our government can do.
Bingo. The situation sucks, and I do hope she gets home safely, but you need to know as a traveler or employee in these fucked up countries what you can and cannot do.

And you should error on the side of caution when traveling to other countries, no drugs or weapons should be in your bags. And like all famous people, fair or not, she'll get 1 million times more attention than a regular citizen will get. If they wouldn't do it for any us normal people, ethically they should not do it for her, especially if she did legitimately break their laws.

No we make these terrible laws here too and people who know better go right along with it because they prefer being told what to do than what's right. There's no world or country where a person deserves to go to jail for 10 years for vape pen residue.

This "We can't ignore their point of view" and lending credibility to bad things is exactly why we are losing rights as we speak. This is bad, I have no problem saying it bad and incredibly useless and stupid.

I can't believe you are asking the question. This is a collosal waste of everyone's time and money and Britney Griner is going to lose the prime of her life for a simple mistake that was never going to lead to any consequences for anyone ever.

The fact Putin is attempting to barter her for an arms dealer shows how little the actual law in Russia matters in this circumstance. Btw, the “law of the land” in Russia is whatever the fuck Putin wants it to be. The “law of the land” in Russia is whenever Putin wants it enforced. The corruption across Russia when it comes to “enforcing” “the law” is so ridiculous that drivers carry bribe cash for when they get pulled over by the cops. This whole thing is bullshit.

Don’t go to authoritarian countries and break their laws. Especially don’t go to authoritarian countries and break their laws during a time of war. It’s not fair, and what she did was a minor offense, but it’s russia.

I don’t think the US should make such a lopsided trade. The Russian arms dealer was one of the world’s largest illicit arms dealer. He was convicted for selling arms to who he thought were Colombian rebels and that he thought were intended to kill Americans.

Make Russia throw in a few unprotected first picks at the very least.

In all seriousness, this is why you don’t go to these countries. Russia, North Korea, China, etc. If you go to these countries you have to be aware of their laws. Brittney Griner wasn’t some clueless 18 year old kid. She’s been playing professionally in Russia for years.
