Obviously the browns have some holes to fill this off-season. The most obvious is almost the entire defense.

Discuss.

I like what we did last offseason as far as making smart one year depth signings.

Billings (opted out due to COVID), Kevin Johnson, Karl Joseph, BJ Goodson, and Sendejo (jokes aside) was a nice way to add some solid depth to the defense.

Unfortunate we battled injuries on that side of the ball, especially in the secondary.

However, the approach was sound. I'd like to do the same this year.

I’d basically mirror what they did on offense.

Spend in defense, depth on offense. And when it comes to the draft, it’s speed over everything.

Really, really hope that Delpit comes back close to 100%. Him being what they thought he was will hide a lot of the warts in the secondary. Aside from that, we really need a difference maker at IDL, way more talent in the secondary, and speed across the LB core. We can't play this conservative, bend but don't break zone defense when our LBs can't tackle in space and our corners can't hold in coverage (aside from Denzel).

With Vernon being done you have to use some dollars to sign an established hopefully big time bookend
to compliment Garrett. I don't think you want to take the chance that the 25th player or wherever they are drafting is going
to be that guy. Thats the one big dollar signing they need to pursue.

Biggest needs as I see them.

DE: Vernon is gone, perhaps from the league with that injury. Porter Gustin is a nice effort player but not good enough. Clayborn is going to be 33?
CB: especially if Greedy will never be healthy.
LB: Goodson may be gone, Mack regressed big time or wasn't good to begin with, Taki is too up and down.

Next tier would be:

S: I still hope Delpit can be a player. Harrison was a nice add.
WR: OBJ aside we still need a burner out there.
T: Conklin and Wills are great but we can't be having just Lamm if one goes down.

I'd be in favor of bringing in someone to replace Woods. I realize that's not a popular opinion and I realize that he deserves another year with more talent, but I think his scheme relies on all-pro talent at nearly every position. Certainly lightning-fast LBs playing at a pro bowl level, and I just don't think he's ~that~ DC for us.

I imagine we'll add more defensive guys and reroll with Woods, but I have a feeling it's not going to be much different.

We need LBs and defensive linemen pretty badly, and spruce up the secondary here and there and we should be sound. We need at least an average defense at ALL COSTS, guys.

I hope COVID effects don’t linger for our guys, especially Myles. In some cases they’re quite prolonged. Many months off and top level treatment will be good for everyone. Fingers crossed!

On defense I’d like to invest draft capital in the secondary for a starting safety and corner depth. At LB, Takitaki wound up surprisingly solid and Goodson is a good veteran, but we could use a speed infusion there.

On offense, maintaining the quality of our line and adding one more receiving threat, ideally a speedster, would be great. I don’t know anything about OBJ’s health and I’m doubly unsure about his fit.

In any case, we’ve got cap room, an upcoming draft, and a GM I have faith in. We’re not in a bad spot, especially in light of the last couple decades.

Do we pursue JJ Watt? I don't know how much he would ask and what's our price point on DE.

I assume the texans will want a first for him. So probably not. Plus him and Garrett on a d line would be a huge amount invested in D line

Do y'all remember when NE beat KC in overtime and everybody bitched because Mahomes couldn't get the ball back in overtime?

People wanted to change the overtime rules because of how salty they were.

KC won the Super Bowl the next season.

I think my top target would be Haason Reddick. He’s a quality rusher, he’s also capable in coverage.

I also think Ant Harris is probably a play, not sure the cost.

Also we need to get OBJ healthy and get him acclimated fully into the offense in the offseaon.

WE missed that guy so bad today. Missed the attention he draws from other defenders and the most underrated part of OBJ's game that we really miss is that short stuff. Those quick routes that he can turn into 10 yard gains.
