Nice to see the gang getting along so well.

I didn't expect anything different. As much as I want to keep Teller, we can't spend too much on him as he's just one piece on the o-line. Gotta draft well and utilize the magic of Bill Callahan to keep it a strong unit.

Talk about making chicken salad out of chicken shit?
He's never leaving, is he?

Next offseason will be interesting because there is definitely a world where the Browns cut Hooper and re-sign njoku
Ya one of the two will be gone. I also think Higgins us gone if we see the real OBJ & DPJ.

Njoku, maybe Hooper.

I would say Njoku OR Hooper. But valid point.

The way Njoku played last year and the smaller contract extension he would command, he is a much better fit if we can unload Hooper. Hooper is guarteed this year, but then has 3 years left on a 3.75 bonus. I think this is Hooper's last year (one of the bonus years is past his contract, and just going to be dead money(

For the record, I think we extend Njoku, draft another TE so we have 3, and cut Hooper (and OBJ) saving 9.5 a year for 2 years on Hooper.

While both OBJ and Hooper have talent, they will make a combined 22 mill in salary that we can cut and use on Chubb, Baker and Ward. We can then also draft and sign cheaper players in the offseason. Which on the draft front, we kind of already did.

In case I didnt mention this, Barry is a genius. he is obvious in a not obvious way.

I actually think they ride out OBJs contract if he has a great season (big if, I know). That cap spike will make him seem like a decent value. Why not take it while continuing to develop DPJ & Schwartz (along with drafting again if need be). Cap is gonna go up $25M; I still think Barry gets the key guys locked up before the spike.

2022 moves if I had to guess:
  1. Restructure Myles (guarantee more and shift some cash out, similar to what Mahomes did)
  2. Move on from Keenum (save $6M)
  3. Move on from Tretter ($10M saved)
  4. Restructure Bitonio

Also worth noting, Ward (IMO) will be the last guy signed. Lack of durability can kill whatever run we are trying to make. I'd wager if he wasnt local, or a buckeye, people would be more willing to move on....despite the obvious elite talent.

Yeah I would imagine that most of us that assume OBJ is gone a year from now are doing so under the impression that he either continues to struggle to connect with Mayfield or just has a solid but not amazing season. If he looks like prime OBJ, Baker takes a step forward, and we make the playoffs again, I could definitely see him coming back.

ETA: If OBJ and Baker develop some chemistry, I think I'd be much more inclined to part with Landry and re-sign Higgins at a fraction of his cost. I know people love Landry, but I don't think this team needs his leadership any more. We've got plenty of leaders, and Higgins is a guy who, despite subpar athleticism, was #2 in the NFL last year in yards per target and #12 in yards per reception. He gets open downfield and he makes contested catches, and if not for a bullshit targeting no-call, he's the reason we beat the Chiefs in the playoffs. He also doesn't have the issue with drops that Landry has had the past two years.

We really need to see good non-counting stats from Njoku, Higgins, and DPJ. If we do, it gives us so much flexibility. If we don’t, it’s not the end of the world but Berry will have to make some tough decisions.

Perhaps also because we have another first round pick and a second round pick at CB on the roster as well. If both Newsome and Williams look good, that gives more wiggle-room to move on from Ward if he looks to be too expensive.
