Rivera's defensive coaches included Wilks and Holcolmb during his peak years with the Panthers.

sean McDermott was responsible for most of that defense. The panthers weren’t the same after he left.

No, he wasn't.

Because that's not how coaching works. In any event, McDermott's defense went from the Top 10 to 26th in Pts Allowed, before returning to the Top 11 under Wilks the following season.

The 2015 Panthers were really good, but a baseless take to shit on Wilks and Holcomb after having done no research to support it won't really move the needle for me.

Truthfully, Ron got a lot of bad luck in Cam getting career ending injuries. Before Cam started falling apart, that team was really really good.

Ron Rivera would be a much better option in the retread category than Mike McCarthy or Doug Fucking Marrone.

Ron Rivera seems like a guy John Dorsey would like. I don't know if that means anything but he seems like a coach that would mesh really well with John Dorsey. Also if he comes here that means Steve Wilks is probably staying. I'm not even gonna think about Freddie taking a demotion to OC but we've seen crazy shit before.

Ron Rivera served as head coach of the Panthers during Dave Gettelman’s entire tenure as GM there, including the year of their Super Bowl berth.

Wouldn’t be at all surprised if the Giants scoop up Rivera after letting Shurmur go.

I think Freddie comes back for year 2. If Dorsey wanted him out I would think there would be stuff leaking about what is going on behind closed doors. Like issues of poor practice schedules or players disliking certain things. But we have a couple weeks left for this to happen.

I don't think the Browns have the luxury of waiting until after next season.

Mayfield and Garrett's contracts are ticking away.

I do agree that Freddie comes back for year 2. Dorsey isn't likely to admit a mistake after one year.

I would imagine you will see some sort of staff shake up (Monken would be a goner is my guess) and that'll suffice for everyone.

I don’t think the organization has determined Freddies status for next year yet.
My opinion-
If Browns finish 8-8 or better, he stays
If Browns finish 7-9 or worse, he’s gone

If this is the case then the future of the franchise depends on the result of one meaningless game in a lost season?

Yes, I believe these last four games will determine Freddie’s fate. Do you think a decision has been made already?

More or less, yes. I think Dorsey already has his plan in mind.

Whether that is retaining Freddie and blaming the season on growing pains + some of the glaring weak links on the team (OL, S, TE) or cutting ties with Freddie and pursuing a replacement...I don’t know for sure. But I think John has a pretty good idea by now and a few games against bottom feeders plus a likely loss to the Ravens won’t move the needle much.

What type of coach should be coaching this team? Offensive mind? Defensive mind? A neutral coach who's a good leader? A young innovator? A retread who specializes on one side of the ball? Freddie?

If I had to choose I'd go with a neutral coach who's a good leader and pair him with a really good OC and an experienced DC.

Fair enough. I just feel the situation is still somewhat fluid (could be wrong). If Dorsey’s indeed leaning toward your first scenario above, and then the Browns look embarrassingly bad while finishing 0-4, I’m guessing he will flip and move on. Conversely, if Dorsey is planning on “replacement” and we roll to a 4-0 finish, then Freddie likely lives on. Extremes, I get it, and not necessarily the way decisions should be made, but my hunch nonetheless.

A wildcard in all this is the Haslams. May not be worth the time exploring things “logically”.
