Fold the team, if this is it.

There was a piece earlier today that the little coaching GM candidate committee that meets and give teams list of top available candidates only has retreads at the top of the HC list. Looks like all of the top candidates are retreads. If so those are the top 4 available presumably. Marrone is a dark horse. Haslam wanted him before and missed out on him.

I think people need to severely lower their expectations on who replaces Freddie. If the best we can get is an experienced HC who has had post season success with sub par QB play I think we'll be fine. There's no way that anybody against hiring a retread should even have playoff expectations next year. You're gonna hire a new HC with no NFL HC experience and take this undisciplined, front running team to the playoffs? I don't think so. You need a retread with some credibility, experience, and success. Marrone, McCarthy, or Harbaugh all fit that mold.

Both Marrone and Harbaugh are guys who Haslam has pursued in the past. That should absolutely be taken into consideration. We know the history with McCarthy and Dorsey. For all this talk about Freddie being in over his head and not ready for the job I'm shocked to see so much resistance to guys who are proven. Everything about this team should show you that the hott coordinator is not gonna come in here and fix things. All year we've been hearing about the talent on this team yet we don't want coaches who've won with talent before?

I just don't see how another HC with no NFL HC experience is gonna work right after Freddie. We can pretend like this team isn't being built to win now if we want to but we know that it is. One of the biggest knocks on the Freddie hire was that the team was being built to win now with an inexperienced coach. Well then go get an experienced coach. Does the talent on this team need to be overhauled? I don't think so. yes we have needs at some key spots like every team in the league but we are not rebuilding. get a coach who can come in and hit the ground running. A coach who has won in this league before.

I'll just say that I think this may be a tad premature even though I think Freddie does deserve the can for multiple reasons.

With that said, the list should begin and end with Stefanski. If they hire a retread, especially fucking Doug Marrone of all people, then just pack it in and pencil them in for 9-7 for the rest of the Browns lifetime.

That's if Stefanski wants to be here after being passed over for Freddie. Sure put him at the top of the list but I left him off for the same reason as Josh McDaniels. They have to want to be here. Also Doug Marrone is better suited for this job than most of the names I've seen who have never been NFL Head Coaches. He's not even a horrible coach.

I want Eric Mangini back

I think he'd have this particular team in playoff contention.

His weakness was personnel, not coaching.

Apparently DePodesta wanted Stefanski over Freddie.
And prior to that, he lobbied for McDermott (Bills).
Maybe let the nerds pick? With Dorsey, though, not likely.
Bienemy worries me because that's Andy Reid's baby.

I still think there is a chance that Dorsey won't be willing to correct the problem at HC and he gives Freddie one more year. If that happens I hope they can get someone who meshes better with Freddie on offense and they get some qualified to take over the defense.
