Take that "this is good" spin to meatspin. Trying to re-create the wheel has been a fail. This organization isn't fooling me; they aren't revolutionizing dick.
I remember when you tried acting all high and mighty when I shat on your shitty ass football guys. Where’s that at now?

Edit- it’s still there.

Paton has played this brilliantly, IMO.

The stink of his rejection is not great. The guy who rarely interviews for anything and has rejected multiple teams requests, makes him appear to be a white whale for a major NFL job if he wants one.

I don't know. People are using the "likes Minnesota" and "wants to keep his family around and be there for them" arguments, but do any top-end GM/coach actually prioritize family over work? It's like the "resigning to spend more time with his family" politician line.

Feels like the Browns might've gotten played, even if Paton rarely accepts interviews.

Chad Forbes was also the guy who, last May, claimed OBJ was gonna have a press conference to announce that he's gay.

I wouldn't take him at his word

Just to be clear, OBJ didnt announce?

That's fair, but the further back you move, the harder it becomes to get it right. And if you get it wrong, after passing up an elite player, it's catastrophic.

49% o players 16-32 will make a pro bowl, 51% 1 -15 will make a probowl.

I am not saying we should trade back, but outside of something like top 2 or 3, the statistics suggest there is no huge advantage at 10 vs 20 in the first round.

Wandering if Berry changed his voicemail intro yet

"I won't deny ya, I'm a straight rida, you don't wanna fuck with me......leave ya name an number after the beep"

What am I missing here?

If the Browns would've hired Stefanski & Berry right off the bat with very little search (as some have stated they might as well have done), a huge chunk of the fan base would have (rightfully) lambasted them for it.

So, instead the Browns actually do something they planned on doing, conduct an exhaustive search for a HC, interview 3 respected candidates for the GM position, go through the process, and still a chunk of the fan base blasts them for it because they ended up still hiring two guys who have been amongst the favorites at each respective position since the get go..?

Call me crazy, but I've been surprised and happy with how they've conducted both searches.

Mo, what you're missing is the ability to think only in hot takes. That's not a bad thing.

Remember all the people who were sure two weeks ago that the whole search was a sham because the Haslams loved themselves some Josh? Wasn't McDaniels/Ziegler sure to happen? (Hey, Josh's wife was on the plane!!!) Where are those folks now?

Both of the Browns' searches this past month have been very, well, un-Browns-like. Methodical, unemotional, not given to knee-jerk decisions. They thoroughly interviewed several HC candidates, then picked the one they thought was best -- not the popular choice. They've done the same thing with a smaller pool of GM candidates.

It looks like they're going to end up with Stefanski and Berry, which was a pairing that some fans thought was likely from the beginning. However, that doesn't mean the process was a sham or just for show. Maybe, just maybe, they vetted all the top candidates and decided that these two really were the best for their jobs.

To add to this I am pretty sure that 2nd rounders and 3rd rounders have the highest "hit" rate versus value on the draft chart. Basically (and these numbers are made up) you can have 1 shot at a 50% chance at a pro-bowler or 3 shots at a 30% chance. Now obviously if you are chasing a franchise QB you can throw this shit out the window, but thats a another discussion.

What? I don’t delete what I say & I’ll tell you when I believe I was wrong. I think firing our GM for this is a monumental risk. Now, we know that DePo is gonna be picking football personnel & I think that’s brutal and explains why there’s 1 GM candidate left standing.

You’re taking a victory lap over how this has unfolded?

What will be the spin when Paton takes an interview with Carolina?

I don't agree with your premise that "making a pro bowl" is an effective evaluation of the value of a player.

I wish i remember the stats but huge difference between the rounds and as you would expect after 3rd round, it gets very unlikely. It was a study a few years ago and the first round was the only thing i remember, but there is luck in drafting on top of the skill.

I dont think trading down is an automatic though even with the stats though, depends on needs and who is there on your chart, etc. I would say trust the process, but that is now an over used term, lol

And yes, everything is thrown out when drafting franchise qb. , And from stats, you should almost never trade out of top 2 or 3, For example, Chase Young has such a high percentage of success if he remains the top player talent wise, (although i know will go #2), that when they dont work, its a story, who ever has number 2 will be a fool to trade out of it.

Its not 100%, it was a point an article i read and backed it up with stats, and maybe it was 50% chance to become a starter now that i think of it, but the point of the article was talking about trading down as long as you get a first is a good move. I read it during the year we kept trading or future picks and had 3 firsts. I agree that you should look at your board and take your player unless you are offered a boat load, but i was just pointing out draft position dosnt always equal success outside of I believe top 3, that has something like a 80 or 90 percent chance.

Speaking of white whales, this post got liked by Triplethreat.

You calling me fat?

It's shit like this that pisses me off about the local media.

Despite the Browns (including Stefanski!) saying the entire time that they were going to take their time with the GM process and despite other teams announcing even later in the process (John Lynch wasn't hired until 1/29, for example), Darryl decides he wants to rile up some of the fan base some today with this gem.

It seems harmless on the surface, but he knows damn well what he's doing and what it'll do.

Darryl would also be the 1st one to bash the Browns had they simply hired Berry off the bat with very little search.
