Browns hire Andrew Berry

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How about Andrew Berry?

We all like to play a bit of armchair GM, but the real scope of work for a guy like this goes well beyond choosing between the various high profile guys we can all watch on youtube.

Of the five Browns who took Covid waivers for the season in August, three were OG's. That's just ridiculously bad luck. But freaking Berry just went to work.

Digging up Dunn, and the behind the scenes deep scouting that must go on for us to have targetted and acquired a late season guy as far down another team's depth chart as was Hance, is just impressive as shit.

The sheer amount of work that must go into all that, the building of the right kind of scouting organization, and it all happened in just his first season as GM. As much as we hit a homerun with Stefanski, Berry absolutely deserves his recognition as well.

how about Dorsey. Built the majority to the browns and chiefs who are both playing each other. He should have a job.

Apparently a very good scout of players, but a lousy manager. I mean, in terms of him getting a GM job, his resume includes strongly preferring Freddie Kitchens over Kevin Stefanski.

Would you really want to put a guy like that in charge of your organization?

Also, while he might be very good at some aspects of talent evaluation, he's also the guy who decided that Hubbard and Robinson were acceptable starting tackles, and when he made a major trade, further depleted the offensive line and our draft capital in favor of drafting a WR who hasn't made much of a difference here. Bottom line is that it was Dorsey's decisions that led to Baker having a terrible season.

His resume also includes being a power-hungry asshole and unable to manage the NFL salary cap in two different places.

Selfish people don't make good leaders.

I edited to add the part about how he devalued the importance of OT's, and we all know how that worked out. Seems like a guy who does some things really well, but also is just bad at other critical aspects of the job.

According to Peter King in today's article, Berry reached out to Joe Douglas for permission to sign Hance from the Jets practice squad. Small, but classy move.

You all know that I was a Berry stan already. I was a fan of his during the hiring process. I was enamored with him after our first two picks. I really like the way this organization is set up, from top to bottom.

Seeing that camera shot yesterday of DePo, Haslam and Berry made me even more confident in him. I know that look, that image of him standing there with his backpack next to the owner. Both confident and presentable, but also there's no question--you're there to be competent and do work, not just look pretty and schmooze like the guy next to you. Anyone in a technical role knows that look. One of us! One of us!

Berry stan sounds like a country, and quite frankly a country I want to visit, lol.

Seeing him wearing a backpack cracked me up.
All the stuffiness that comes with being a Front Office person at a company, this massive moment in Browns history, and the dude is like, "yeah, I made this happen, and yeah I'm gonna wear my backpack, and no, I don't give shit what you think about it."

When did he wear a backpack?

Last night. There was a shot of him with Jimmy and Depo during the end. I think he always wear one. This is the second time I've seen him with the backpack.

Look like someone getting to college honestly.

Or literally any tech professional that actually does work.

You travel for the job, your laptop's on you.

Makes sense he likes the college look, because Berry just schooled the Steelers.
