Browns hire Andrew Berry

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The only major whiff of his was Corey Coleman in RD 1 but everyone had agreed he was a good prospect with high potential.

The fact he is a believer in Stefanski and apparently can work well with DePodesta should (keyword) lead to less fragmented results on-the-field.

If he can sharpen our shitty culture, it should pay dividends but unfortunately that shitty culture starts with his boss.

A little lame to C&P something I posted on another board, but oh well:

Things that are not known and can not be quantified, no matter how much people try to tie certain events and decisions to specific people.

1. Berry was not the decision maker in his first stop here. He did not break ties or decide who to select. He did not drive decisions on what specific trade down to take or what player to select. He was a voice in the room and a voice in the process. Hopefully he learned some things from the mistakes of others, affirmed some beliefs of his, and adjusted some beliefs of his in reaction to the successful and failed draft selections and processes he's been a part of and in the circle for.

2. Just because he was given the opportunity to speak on specific draft choices( re: the Corey Coleman quotes) is not proof in any way that CC was "his guy" or that he was somehow given the power to make that selection at 15 to select Coleman. And after the fact, once drafted, he's not going to get up there and say something negative.

Even if he was one of the advocates for CC in the building(an unknown, but possible) it doesn't mean that he can't or hasn't learned from some of the areas that caused them to miss in their evaluation of him. one thing they thought about him was that his psychological profile was that of a bulldog. Because they got so much info about how he dominated in practices and games and was the hardest worker/most competitive guy. But they missed some clues along the way that when faced for the first time with true elite competition at every game and with true on the field adversity, he didn't have the mental strength and tools in the toolkit to adjust, overcome, and thrive. In other words, his bulldog mentality had a limit and he folded as on the field adversity hit for the first time in the NFL. How committed to self improvement and adjusting to the higher level of competition, skills, and work needed to thrive in the NFL was CC's problem. Not any physical metric. While, we do not know how much Berry was a driver for CC being selected, what we can only hope is that he takes that specific example, as well as others from his time in IND, CLE, and PHI to inform the total way in which he will evaluate players and the scouting staffs evaluation of those players

Eh...

Ogbah hasn't really lived up to his 2nd round selection. Our entire third round in 2016 was brutal: Nassib, Shon Coleman, Kessler.
Njoku may not get a second contract, Kizer was a complete waste of a 2nd rounder, etc.

As much as some people might get off on me shoving something up my ass. I’m currently saving that for the good Lord. I will donate to the site, Australia fires, Kobe charity, whatever.

I’ll try and get more info on this when I can.
I missed the part about you shoving anything up your ass... a donation to wherever seems more appropriate. I would like to see what it was you said you'd do again though... just to put all those related comments in context.

Some notable excerpts from a Harvard alumni profile done on Berry back in September of 2019:

As he delved deeper into strategy, his computer science training became invaluable.

“When you are thinking of acquiring talent and managing talent on a roster, a lot of it is like pricing risk,” he said. “Machine learning techniques and data are having more of an impact in all the different spaces of football operations. My background has really aided me in terms of being able to speak multiple languages with the decision makers and the analysts, and it has enabled me to be of help with the general strategy in terms of building a team.”

The friction that is created by those new techniques presents a challenge that can sometimes be difficult to overcome. Many personnel decisions in football are still based purely on gut and intuition. There’s a place for that, but using data to help inform those decisions is gaining traction, Berry said. Blending a number of different perspectives and tools to make the best decisions is a complicated task.

Berry has now brought his perspective to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was named vice president of football operations in February. In his new broader role, he works to develop a winning strategy alongside many different areas of football operations, including talent scouts, the research group, the contract management team, and the high-performance player development team.

“I’m out of my comfort zone. I’m now working in a few spaces in which I don’t have as strong expertise, but that transition is important and enjoyable and it pushes me and helps me broaden my own perspective,” he said. “I consider myself really blessed because I learn so much every day and there is always a fresh perspective in tackling these yearly problems.”

I hope Berry's ready for his first act as GM to be cutting Kareem Hunt loose

Berry actually has a chance to, if done correctly, whether Hunt is re-signed or released to resonate with current and potentially future FAs in the Browns favor.

Hunt isn't currently in the drug program in the NFL......he does have another issue that may taint him, but unless something really damning Hunt is brought to light concerning this instance, it makes total sense to try to re-sign Hunt, with stipulations, in a reasonable cheap contract

What do you know...
On point #2... how do we know that’s actually true? That’s something that’s way easy for the Browns brass to make up after the fact.
