Browns hire Andrew Berry

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How big of a deal do you think it is in terms of relations with players and attracting FAs that our FO has young African-American dudes mostly running the show?
Probably plays a part but the Browns have also been one of the most talked about teams and their reputation has been pretty positive recently. Perception of the Browns has changed radically over the last few years.

I think for the most part the only color that matters is green. And then if it’s close, winning. I don’t think a black GM has anything to do with it. See Farmer, Ray.

Competency doesn't have a color. Berry clearly is just ridiculously bright with people skills to match. Everyone with whom he has worked has said great things about him. He's not only one of the best GM's in the league but also the youngest in league history, which is an almost absurd combination if you think about it.

Just glad he's here with us, and couldn't care less if he was black, white, or Uruk-hai.

Is it punishable by death to give some credit to Dorsey too? Off the top of my head he netted us:

Landry
Baker
Ward
Chubb
OBJ
Ward
Teller
Hunt
Richardson
Vernon
TakiTaki
Wilson
Greedy

Obviously he has some misses, but who doesn’t? In my opinion he really jump started this thing. I think it’s fair to give him some love too.

I think Dorsey has a good eye for talent, but he has absolutely no idea on how to build a team and organization, hire a head coach, and generally wears people out. He made some good trades, but it will be interesting to see if he manages to stick around in Detroit for more than three years.

Even though he made some good personnel moves, he advocated for keeping Hue, hired Kitchens, and set his QB up to get killed by not addressing the OL, all of which ultimately cost him his job.

I think (hope) color has a minimal role in it. Winning, stability, money, playing time/scheme are the driving force behind it. And they all lead to more money. Of course being black in a predominately black league doesn't hurt, but its hopefully at the bottom of the list in player signings.

Clowney pretty much said the reason he signed here was Andrew Berry, so it probably plays a role.

Berry has had the hots for clowney since last year. That’s why clowney came here. Not because berry is black. But because berry has chased after him and offered him a great deal in a good situation.

Don’t know what your sources are but Dorsey certainly never advocated for keeping Hue Jackson. That was all Haslam.

I wonder if Dorsey and Campbell both being about as “football guy” as you could possibly be will serve to maybe lessen the potential for ego clashing over vision for the team. I think a lot of the backroom politicking and abrasiveness from Dorsey stemmed from clashes with DePo and his vision for the team.

If Campbell and Dorsey have a unified vision for the Lions, it might actually work out! Even if the vision is largely a caveman-ass view of how you build a football team

Dorsey seems to have a decent enough eye for talent, but he seems uniquely terrible at picking out people to lead his teams. He seems to want a lackey more than anything, which I think is why he wanted to keep Kitchens. Kitchens owed everything to him and wouldn't overstep. He has issues with any coach who wants too much of a say, and that's why he's no longer with the Chiefs or Browns. Both teams have been better without him, although to be fair the Chiefs have really whiffed on some recent picks.

I also think his lack of concern over character issues can negatively impact his teams long term. You can get away with a few guys like that if your team has strong leadership, but strong leadership doesn't seem to be something Dorsey values.

God the media in this town is so embarrassing, particularly the ones that cover the Browns.

A “professional” reporter actually asked Andrew Berry if he ever just throws out the draft board/plan and “wings it” when making a pick. Thankfully Stefanski was there to make a lighthearted joke out of it, but it doesn’t change the fact that the question sucked.

It’s the last question in this clip:

This is how you know both Stefanski and Berry are consummate professionals, because they routinely get asked moronic questions in these press conferences, and they always remain completely respectful even when internally they’re dying inside.

It’s worse because he thinks he knows the answer. If you know how obvious the answer is why the fuck are you asking.
