Browns fans: "Yeah, I'm done getting excited for a coach in the offseason. Winning a press conference doesn't mean shit. Let's see results first."

*10 minutes later Stefanski says 'let's get to work'*

Browns fans: "Holy fucking shit. That's my coach!!! #GETSUS #LFG #SuperBowl"

I wonder how many of those fans were ripping their hair out and throwing a temper tantrum because they hired Stefanski instead of McDaniels.

We might learn some things towards the end of April.

No...we'll just think we learned something important towards the end of April. We'll match up our "board" with the draft picks, and either celebrate or howl in outrage in our certainty that our individual player projections were correct.

All that really matters is what ends up happening on the field in September, and while we all have our guesses/projections, none of us really know. I'm not trying to sound cynical or anything - it's just that there have been so many offseasons where I thought "we're finally going to turn it around", then had Lucy yank that fucking football away at the last moment, that I've finally learned not to believe shit one way or the other until the guys actually start to play games that matter.

I'm looking forward to people getting upset when he's calm on the sidelines. "I WANT MY COACH TO BE FIRED UP! HE HAS TO THROW A TANTRUM FOR THE CAMERA IN ORDER FOR ME TO FEEL VALIDATED!"

I actually think that the ability to be a fiery "motivator" is one of the least important attributes for an NFL head coach. That kind of adrenaline rush lasts for a few snaps, and that's it. And it can come from position coaches/coordinators just as easily during games. That kind of motivation can dissipate as quickly as it was created if the game plan doesn't work, the correct adjustments aren't made, etc..

It's much less important than being able to manage/select/direct the subordinate coaches, listen to and know when to follow/discard advice, effectively counsel players who are having issues, and having an insightful, and hopefully somewhat innovative understanding of the technical aspects of the game. Guys get fired up on their own if they go out there with confidence that the coaching staff knows what the hell it is doing, and has put them in a good position to win.

Kind of reminds me of when someone posted that clip of Rivera giving an awesome halftime speech to fire up the troops and then someone else looked that game up and it turned out the Panthers ended up losing it. :chuckle:

That's one of the reasons I wasn't as high on Saleh as were some. The primary thing I kept hearing was that he was a great motivator, "commanded the room", etc.. But charisma is not the same thing as competence. And I'm not saying he wouldn't have been a good coach -- it's just that the focus seemed to be so much on his charisma that I just wasn't hearing as much about all the other stuff that matters.

The puff pieces are all nice. But I don't think we're really going to know anything truly important until next September.

That is my attitude. I love the hire, its who I wanted, but I am not going to get excited over our coach until we start playing the games, to many times disappointed. I wanted Hue also, so who fucking cares what he says, lets get our staff, get ready for the draft, see what we do with our personnel and play some football.

Everyone on the same page has to matter right? I mean it cant be all Haslam, we keep giving A-1 B+ grades as knowledgably fans....so we will see.
