Browns intend to sign CB T.J Carrie

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There are wayyyyy more people on here than me that understand the ins-&-outs of cap dollars, but how in the living hell are we going to be in cap hell b/c he is spending money like this?

Yes, we had over $100m in cap space, but that doesn't mean we just go around and throw massive contracts at all the top-tier FA's. If he was going around throwing multi-year deals at ARob for $16m/yr, Sammy Watkins getting $30m/GUARANTEED AT SIGNING, among other higher paid FA's, then we should worry. But bringing in some vets on slightly higher than their market worth is not a bad thing for such a young team.

And shit, some of these contracts don't even go past next year.

Yeah, it is all about the guaranteed money...people are missing that...

Almost everyone we signed we are only committed to for about a year or two.

this is not accurate it all. Can it be, absolutely, however its entirely dependent on the contract.

For example take Fells contract. its a 12 million dollar contract and 6 million is guaranteed. But he has several easy to earn bonuses, such as being on the active roster for games. So it really depends on the contract.

Can we call it Baby Mama LLama Drama?

People also tend to forget that there is a minimum spend rule in the NFL. A percentage of cap space must be used by league rule.

This is technically true, but there are easy ways to work around it.

The minimum spend rule is cumulative over a four year period and not year-by-year.

Oh, so Fells can earn what, like an extra million if he's active most of the year? It's not like the contract is an albatross. Really, all of them are structured to allow for the Browns to evaluate before committing future dollars.

Bump.
