BROWNS OFF-SEASON 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
NFL Network reports the league's salary cap could decline for 2021.
The cap been soaring skyward in recent years, reaching $198.2 million for the upcoming season, but with fan-less games all but a certainty for the fall, the league is facing revenue shortfalls. The league's media apparatus claims the goal is "to make sure the salary cap goes up or at worst stays flat," but professional sports leagues never operate out of the goodness of their hearts. The NFLPA could have a real fight on its hands this summer. The sides would like to have an agreement hammered out before training camp. Similar talks have been going extremely poorly between the MLBPA and Major League Baseball.

Maybe the Browns should hold onto that rollover cap another 2 years longer, given the extensions coming up.

I hate to say it, since I've been on the optimistic side on COVID sports, but I think we're going to have a lot less players "playing through hand/arm/leg/etc injuries" this year, across the board, and at least some players missing some games because of "flu-like symptoms," more than usual.

On a more positive note, on a former Brown:

Note that Reddit NFL and NBA forums are closed to non-users at this time due to the contentiousness of this topic.

Eric Eager at PFF used to be a PhD epidemiological statistician. He was saying it is theoretically possible, if you remove concession stands, to have NFL games with 33%-50% of each stadium filled. Players are still at the same danger, but if every fan is required to wear a mask and maintain 6-10 feet, he thought it was unwise but possible.

I do wonder if the player's union ends up fighting playing games. I guess we'll see. My best guess is there will be a delayed start and no fans in stadiums, at least during the first part of the season.

The NFL released a memo stating 'Beginning tomorrow, June 5, coaching staffs may be among the employees returning to your facility."
Players are still not allowed to be at facilities. The NFL added that coaches and other football staff who may be in a higher risk category are expected to speak with the club medical staff or personal physician about any special precautions.

NFL seems on the right track to begin on time or maybe have a little extended camp

I know this is just a rumor, but imagine if we got Clowney for 12million base salary with incentives?

Time is on our side. Clowney's not gonna sit out the year, that would be idiotic. He's gonna sign somewhere... and I like our chances if we have the highest/best offer on the table.

If Schefter said the Browns offered him the biggest deal, im shocked its only $12MM plus incentives.

If this is true it’s not a surprise he’d turn it down when he was expecting close to 20M.

Browns OC Alex Van Pelt said Baker Mayfield is attempting to "streamline his footwork from under center."
“As far as the footwork goes, that’s the part that you can actually coach over the Internet, which is cool,’’ Van Pelt said. “The quarterbacks are sending the videos of their footwork to me. I can now go back, break it down and get on a one-on-one Zoom meeting with them and kind of coach them through the correction process of all the footwork we are going to use.” Van Pelt insists there was nothing seriously wrong with Mayfield's footwork, but that he needed to adjust it for Van Pelt's West Coast system. Van Pelt had previously said Mayfield's footwork led to some accuracy issues in 2019. P

It's that time of year again. My rage and disappointment in last season are fading. Promising workout videos and articles are sucking me back in. What seem to be solid coaching hires and player acquisitions have me thinking 10 win season...

I might need the Browns to do something Brownsy to temper this.
