BROWNS OFF-SEASON 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
A couple, fairly realistic, hypotheticals for the group:

-If you can get Trent Williams for a 4th rounder and extend him at $16-17M per, what do you do at #10?

Draft another LT and trade Williams and that god-awful contract to which we just signed him?

This feels like one of those drafts that is hard for us to even fuck up considering LT is a HUGE need. Unless Simmons falls to 10, you take the best T available.

Even if Williams becomes attainable for a reasonable trade, take the best T available. He is not worth a second round pick when we have other holes to fill.

No Trent for me. Too expensive, salary and compensation wise. If this seasons tackles are as advertised, it's better to get a cost controlled starter at a premium position. Trent is old and hasn't played for a year and a half. I'd rather use an older less expensive Peter's for a stopgap, if necessary.

I know he went through a major health issue and has problems with Washington's physician's treatment of him, but Trent's attitude really worries me. He demands a new contract, though his isn't expiring for two years. He doesn't want to play for the Skins, but he wants to salvage enough of the relationship to be inducted into their ring of honor someday. His agents aren't doing him any good in the court of public opinion, just looking greedy trying to maximize $$$. Some real red flags.

According to that article, he now has only one year left on that deal. Regardless, he apparently was willing to play for the Skins as long as they renegotiated his contract. It didn't become a matter of principle (allegedly) with him until it was clear that the Skins wouldn't renegotiate his deal. And I agree about the red flags -- I hope the Browns stay away from that guy.

He might make sense for a veteran team looking to make a 1-2 year run that didn't have an LT, and didn't have a high enough pick in this upcoming draft to acquire one.

At the salary he would be commanding, he makes very little sense for a young team with the chance to draft a franchise LT.

Anyone have news on Kareem Hunt? If another teams wants him they have tyo give up a 2nd round pick, correct?

Nobody will give up a 2nd-round pick for Hunt. The Browns can work a trade deal and trade him for less value. In my mind, though, it’s likely that Hunt is on the team next year.

Stefanski seems to really like 2 TE or 2 RB sets a lot. Njoku and Hunt are really cheap this year. Unless we have a clear plan to replace either or get blown away by an offer, I don't see the logic in getting rid of either.

Agreed! He likes using 22, 21, and 13 more than most active coaches. I think Hunt makes sense to keep this year.

It helps that both Chubb and Hunt are willing blockers for each other.

I could see Hunt being a guy that gets moved mid-season to fill a pressing need, but I can’t see him being traded in the off-season or see anyone giving up a 2nd for him.

I could also see him getting moved on draft day if we need to make a leap.

In terms of Trent Williams, no thanks. If he really want in the $17 mill / year range I’d rather draft a guy at 10 and take out chances. Williams is good, but he’s not worth the money and is likely trying to get one last big pay day. Good for him, but I don’t want to see the Browns give it to him. We’d likely be cutting him in a year or two anyway when it came time to resign Baker, Ward, Garrett, Chubb, etc., or his contract could prevent us from keeping one or more of those guys.

The vast majority of the time, 2 RB personnel groups are one running back and one fullback.

Rarely is it two actual running backs.

I don't have a huge problem letting Hunt go because he's a pretty different back from Chubb in terms of vision and understanding of how to use zone blocking to his advantage.
