BROWNS OFF-SEASON 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
When the Browns show the wide nine alignment, the defensive ends line up outside the outside shoulder of the offensive tackle and in line tight end. This allows defensive ends to have a one-on-one matchup with tons of space for Myles Garrett and the ends on the other side, but it puts pressure on the linebackers to make the correct read on run or pass to fill those huge gaps. If you remember the 49ers Monday night game when Bosa and Armstead put our tackles on roller skates, that's the alignment I'm talking about.

Clayborn is a perfect match for wide nine alignment because of his win rates. When the Browns traded for Vernon, he was coming off a season in 2018 where he was among the leaders in the NFL with an 18.2 win rate. Last year, he fell off a cliff and rarely looked healthy. Bringing in Clayborn as a pass rush specialist / third defensive end, which Chris Smith failed to make an impact doing for two seasons, they add insurance that the defense won't fall apart of Vernon is dinged up or Garrett can't play because he clubbed a racist.

I always enjoy looking at this when Clay puts it out.

Interesting.

Stidham isn't going to be the worst QB in the league IMHO, to say nothing of how the Pats still have a shot at the Jameis/Cam sweepstakes.
'
Nick Foles and Porn Stache Minshew shouldn't be that low, much less lower than the whomever the Broncos end up with.'
'
They seem to think Tanny's run this past year was a flash in the pan, which is certainly possible; I also still think Burrow is going to be a lot better than 0.6 level.

And yes, I 100% agree that Baker > Danny Dimes/Goff/Darnold/J.Allen. He shouldn't be behind Kyler, last season's late-year disaster game notwithstanding.

Unless there is a change, the Browns were slated to play Dallas in an "away" game in 2020.

Browns were in line to play NFC East in 2020...

or when they are all healthy an we line up Garrett on the inside and do some crazy stunts.

Brent Sobleski touched on this yesterday on Twitter, but because of a nerve issue Clayborn's had since birth he almost exclusively plays the right side of the edge, aka the left tackle side.

Which means if the Browns want to get Clayborn on the field, Myles may be kicking inside more often since right edge is his normal spot.

Address needs in free agency.

Address talent in the draft.

Berry is 1 for 1 so far.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski plans to keep free agent addition Jack Conklin at right tackle.
The Browns received truly horrific blindside play in 2019, but Conklin has spent his entire career on the right side. Right now, Kendall Lamm or Chris Hubbard would make the most sense opposite Conklin, though tackle will be a possibility for the Browns in the draft. Hubbard was unspeakably bad on the right side last season.
