Browns sign Drew Stanton

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
*waits for the first "Browns are passing on QBs" masterpiece.

So, if we didn’t already know it, both Hogan and Kessler will not be returning.

Likewise, it also gets rid of that small small chance of pulling a Washington where we take a 1st and late round QB. Again, this was also unlikely to begin with.

Also, for all those poor souls who think the veteran QB’s skillsets reflect our offense—and thus, who we plan to draft—both Stanton and Tyrod offer levels of mobility.

I wonder if this reflects that the front office doesn't plan on playing the #1 QB draft pick this season? Perfectly fine with me.....

Nice move this frees the browns to take Darnold or Rosen and ensure they sit for a year before taking over... both are 21 and 20 respectively

This is a smart move since he has experience starting. Taylor is the number one probably, Stanton the 2 and Rookie the number three and if Rookie isn’t ready in year two we will still have Stanton.

You mean the "ah, fuck it, let's see what this kid can do. Shit, we can even line him up as a receiver, he might be able to catch" style of coaching might be coming to an end? I know that style hasn't been too successful, but it has looked comedic at times...I.e. Billy's game against the Bengals that one day.
We might actually look like we know what the fuck we are doing next year, which is sad. I just want a team to look competent. Not even worried about getting too many wins. Just don't look like me trying to play cricket with a bunch of Brits, especially when they are all making the kind of money they do

Pretty sure we all would have preferred Sanchez but whatevs

Stanton is a career #2 QB, but he is also going to be 34 at the start of the season. Because of age and low upside, he's moving into the third string phase of his career. It's important to notice that his career winning percentage on non-spectacular teams is still above .500. He's a conservative vet game manager coming off the bench, which the Browns could have used for a long, long time.

This signing has absolutely nothing to do with him as a qb and everything to do with him being a good locker room guy and mentor.

I'll agree to that, but in his admittedly pedestrian career he had an 11-6 record as a spot starter with Detroit and Arizona. He has a track record, and one that he can pass along at the tail end of his career to a more talented player.
