Browns sign Drew Stanton

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Gonna be whispering those veteran sweet nothings into Lamar Jackson's ear while Tyrod leads us to the playoffs :)

*waits for the first "Browns are passing on QBs" masterpiece.
No matter how much you want i to happen there is no way this FO passes on Baker.

All kidding aside, interesting that it is a 2 year deal. Maybe this serves as further proof foot some that TieRod really is just a bridge QB.

I doubt either year is guaranteed money. But it's nice to have control

I hope he’s a good mentor because when he plays he’s horrible

Not horrible, just not good.

He is a decent backup, but means we plan on actually developing a qb instead of starting him in a complex offense game 1.

Crazy.

He’s known as one of the better teammates in the NFL. A good dude who works hard.

Think Josh McCown. Actually, they have similar playing styles.

We could do far worse than Stanton as our mentor to the pup. I was a little leery on Tyrod as that mentor because 1) he’s competing to win games and has enough on his plate 2) at 28, he’s still competing to be a starter in the league and 3) he’s made comments already something along the lines of “I’ll help a rookie where I can, but I have a job to do. It’s his own job to make sure he’s engaged and learning.”

Tyrod, by all accounts, is a great teammate, too, so I don’t want to paint him in a poor light. He’s just not going to put in the extra time aside from his own work to make sure his replacement is up to speed.

Enter Stanton assigned to a personal project.

I’m cool with Stanton being brought in to caddy for the No. 1 overall pick, whoever it ends up being.

Taylor can just focus on being the starter and winning as many games as possible.

Stanton can focus on helping the rookie in the meeting room, on the practice field, etc without having to worry about ever actually playing.

Gotta pave the way for Lamar. These developmental QB's aren't gonna mentor themselves.

I think Stanton will be good for whoever our rookie QB is. We can't expect Taylor to mentor him. Kessler was ruined after his rookie year, he probably has PTSD. Hogan doesn't have the mechanics to be a NFL QB and it's not worth giving him anymore time and effort to wait for him to correct it.

We will be drafting Allen before Lamar, so you can give it a rest lol. I am not saying that to be mean, but the fact that Lamar is rated 5th at earliest on any teams draft board as the QB (at least from what I am reading and seeing). Now it doesn’t mean a team with an established QB won’t draft him cause of the potential but at the same time I don’t actually expect him to go within the top 6 period. He will go later in the draft. We will know in a few years who was right, but for now Lamar has a late first-second round grade while the other top 5 all have at least 1st round grades. (Though if anyone else falls it will be Mayfield)

All the right moves are seeming to be made this offseason by the team though. Getting Taylor as the starter and the experienced spot starter in Stanton who is a solid QB, but nothing spectacular. This will help clarify the room and help make sure we don’t have the issue of whoever we draft is forced to play day one again.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lamar Jackson was the 2nd or 3rd QB taken. With how little people are talking about Jackson, it makes me think multiple teams are hoping he falls to them. It's alot like Watson last year, some negative talk early and then everyone goes quiet. Watson also had a late 1st round to 2nd round grade.

I don't think he is in play at number 1. Teams with the number one pick don't have to be secretive of who they like.

Problem with that line of thinking is that the 3rd QB taken will be at #5 by Denver at the absolute latest. I can't see Lamar going in the top 5 given what everyone's saying about him.
