Browns, 49ers swap QB's
By Zac Jackson, Staff Writer
May 4, 2006

The Browns traded quarterback Trent Dilfer to the 49ers Thursday night, acquiring quarterback Ken Dorsey and an undisclosed 2007 draft choice in return.

Dilfer, acquired in a March 2005 trade with the Seahawks, started the Browns' first 11 games last season. He was brought in to provide leadership and stability to the offense and to mentor Charlie Frye, who started the final five games.

"Trent Dilfer was instrumental in terms of the making over of our football team last year," Browns general manager Phil Savage said. "At this point, to add Ken Dorsey and to give Trent an opportunity to go back home to California is a win-win for all parties."

It's a homecoming for one and a fresh start for the other. Both Dorsey and Dilfer are California natives.

Dorsey, a seventh round pick in 2003, started three games last year and made seven starts in 2004. In 11 career games he's completed 171-of-316 passes for 1,712 yards, with 8 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Dorsey, 25, was the quarterback at the University of Miami for Kellen Winslow's freshman and sophomore seasons there. Dorsey quarterbacked the Hurricanes to the 2001 national championship and an undefeated 2002 regular season before they were defeated by Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl.

Dorsey was the co-MVP of the 2001 Rose Bowl and a two-time Big East Offensive Player of the Year.

Wow, we now have a team of 4 rookie experienced QBs. We better be going after some QB vet like Collins.

At least Dorsey can make all the throws... Ha!

Well, after complaining about Dilfer's lack of touch on short passes, we're all good.

OMG.....

Dorsey, K2.... All we need is Andre Johnson, Roscoe Parrish, Jarret Payton and Willis Mcgahee and we'll have a REAL TEAM

The single most, greatest moment in not only Cleveland Browns history, but in the history of all Cleveland sports.

I will remember this day, May 5 2006, as the day that made the grass greener, my muscles bigger, and pips sister even hotter. :king:

Cinco de mayo es excellente!

Eh, Dorsey is just there because we dont have a third QB. He provides that, we will still sign a vertern at some point.

Eh not a big trade.. Dorsey won't really make an impact.. now we need a veteran QB.. we have all young guns with no expierence really at all.

We had to make sure we continue the trend of a different starter to begin the year.

CDT, sorry to inform you this, but Phil was in Cleveland Saturday morning and he happend to swing by the Q about 7am, and I was there waiting for Cavs tickets... some guy pull out a football and I felt it was time to show off. Threw a few 70+ yard bombs and then did the Kyle Boller and threw 55+ from my knee. He asked me what salary I wanted, I just told him minimum and season tickets for all of the RCF guys! :king:
