Browns Training Camp 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Quick reactions from Game 1:

QB: Dobbs looked surprisingly good, showing some good command and comfort along with some good mobility.. Doesn't have the strongest arm but made some plays.. You could see the arm strength difference and zip on the ball when Rosen came in after Dobbs.. Rosen didn't look half bad but still believe only one of Dobbs or Rosen make the final roster, with a chance neither of them do and Browns bring in a more experienced backup.. High likelihood Rosen and/or Dobbs make the PS if one or both are cut..

RB: Outside of his long run, Ford was 9 for 16 but more so indicative of the offensive line.. Ford showed some really nice burst and cut ability that makes the running back room real interesting.. I was surprised to see him catch the ball so well the few times he had an opportunity too.. Kelly looked solid again in the preseason, and looks destined for the PS..

FB/TE: I still believe Stanton has the leg up on the third TE role due to his offensive versatility and spot on special teams.. Nakia Griffin-Stewart made some nice catches and looks to be likely auditioning for a spot on the PS..

WR: Why does every Schwartz drop lead to a season ending injury? He looks like he has Travis Benjamin written all over him.. They kept Bell out which hopefully is precautionary and he makes his debut next week.. Daylen Baldwin showed some nice hands on some important catches and is playing for a PS spot.. As we mentioned before, this is a spot to watch with Grant gone and Schwartz now on the hot seat, as a position needing some juice.. Still think Watson's suspension plays into how they address this spot..

OL: All groupings seemed to really struggle in the run game and lead to more plays behind the line then you'd like to see.. I know the Browns aren't the reactionary type of org, but calling up Tretter makes too much sense... There's not many players who could seamlessly walk right in after missing critical weeks of camp.. My only thought is either Tretter has been avoiding camps altogether or his knees have retired him.. While Harris isn't a critical player, losing a starter anywhere along the line hurts and Harris seemed ready for a breakout year.. Pocic was signed for this very reason and did grade out as PFF's 15th best center last year and 26th the year before, and the Browns did draft Dawson who now steps into the backup spot..

DL: Probably the most impressive group of the night... Isaiah Thomas flashed all night with some splash plays with 2 sacks, 2 QB hits and 3 TFL.. Rochell had a sack too and surprisingly started the game along Alex Wright, and over Winovich... Chris Odom got a sack too, and is a guy to keep an eye on for the PS.. Winfrey didn't make too much noise and got moved on a few plays in the run game.. Togiai quietly had a really solid guy -- he had 4 tackles and was disruptive inside.. If he can step up and become a solid contributor, it could really make a difference..

LB: Dakota Allen looks to be competing for the 6th LB and special teams spot.. Jacob Phillips looked lost on a few plays in the first quarter..

CB: Probably one of the best rooms on the team and one of the best rooms in the league.. For a guy who only had one career INT in college, that was quite the way to start your NFL career..

S: The Browns seem to be really talking up D'Anthony Bell, and he made a couple of nice plays with a FF and a TFL.. He seems primed for the PS but if he plays well enough, there's a chance he could earn the 10th DB roster spot or even a spot over Richard LeCounte.. One thing working against him is he's a 25 year old rookie soon to turn 26 during the season... The Browns can't quite seem to quite Javonte Moffatt who had a pretty good second half..

ST: Bojorquez was the holder for York's kicks which tells you where the battle is at currently, and also boomed a punt.. I have no idea why JaMarcus Bradley was fielding kick and punt returns, other than they just want a guy who doesn't fumble as he has no wiggle or speed whatsoever... I'm really surprised Felton didn't return punts, and DEJ/Ford didn't return kicks..

It's way too early to say this, but there is a chance we are going to be thanking Alex Grinch and Jamar Cain immensely. Why?

Because they ran a defense in Oklahoma that seems to have greatly taken away from the strengths of Winfrey and Isaiah Thomas, pushing both of them down further in this years draft then they may have been at a school that ran a more tradional 4-3

That James Hudson pick is going to frustrate me for a very long time. In one of the deepest tackle drafts I've ever seen, we just waited too long.

He hasn't looked great in Buffalo, but I would've taken Spencer Brown with the pick we used on Anthony Schwartz. At least Brown has every physical gift you could ask for, and just let Callahan work his magic.

So someone tell me again why we shouldn’t sign will fuller because we have Anthony Schwartz?

If trettor isn’t signed there’s definitely some union black balling going on. He knows the system. Doesn’t need practice to get ready. Still an above average C.

Broader question - since the Browns front office does this full-time, why do you believe you know better?

The reasons are pretty clear.

Fuller has absolutely no market for his sevices. He hasn't been good in two years, and he was popped for PEDs that year. He is what he is, and what he is clearly has a consensus in this league.

The almost-22 year old who doesn't have a PED history and already under contract can be just as good. He has had no camp so far because of a knee injury.

- They will likely sign Fuller as a last resort in the specific case that Schwartz continues to look like this, like past three Browns possessions of a meaningless game... and Watson specifically pounds the table for Fuller.

You realize Watson has never beat the table for Fuller this whole time, right?

Why the fuck do you?

Oh please with this shit. If this was the case no team would ever make a mistake because they know what’s best right?

I mean, they have more reason behind their moves than "He's the highest rated free agent left in Madden" or "I recognize his name! I like names I recognize!"

Schwartz will get time to develop. He looked terrible out there tonight, but he's not preventing the Browns from signing Will Fuller if they wanted to (and if Will Fuller wanted to sign here).

An oft-injured vet probably isn't signing this early in the preseason just to be a backup. Even if we wanted him, and Fuller wanted to come here, it's probably something that they'll wait a while on--let the youngsters soak up the reps right now.

Your entire posting career here is one big mistake, bro. As someone who actually remembers all the posts around here... Wow.

Now read all the other sentences so you know why Fuller isn't a Brown.

It has nothing to do with madden moves. He’s the best wr out there who has a history and chemistry with our qb. Schwartz has done absolutely nothing since coming here and even going back to college that has shown he can be a pro WR.

He was an asshole. Assholes make terrible #2 quarterbacks. Next question.

I don't think he was saying to keep Baker. I took it as the market hadn't matured for Baker and if we could have held on just a while longer to get a better deal when a QB went down.

If we want to trade for Graroppolo we might have competition now. If we held on to Baker, we might have been able to put together a 3 way trade.

We don't know what the front office's plan is if Watson is suspended for a while. The plan to play Brissett to me seems like the plan if Watson's suspension stays at 6 games.
