Browns Training Camp 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Mond is likely an 11-week rental until Watson returns, and then will be cut and sent to PS unless he is claimed..

Teams rarely keep six DEs, so either Winovich or Rochell were going to be cut at one point or another for additional reinforcements elsewhere.. While I appreciate Rochell's strong preseason and positional versatility, the Browns have plenty of bodies at that spot..

Not so sure either is worthy of getting worked up about..

@CBBI made a good point about the Browns potentially not keeping a third TE/FB on the roster and instead promoting from the PS each week... The fact that Mitchell-Paden and Forristall both got signed to the PS, lead me to believe that will be the case...

The scarcity of quality at WR and iDL is my main concern going into the season but Browns seem to want to see the youth play and are willing to take the ups and downs that come with it..

Cant Rochell make the practice squad and be called up every so often?

One thing I think is clear is that a lot of these bottom of the roster "battles" for spots weren't truly battles at all. The spots were more or less predetermined by draft or trade evaluation and not preseason/camp performance.

Several guys who Berry drafted (Hudson, Schwartz, Thomas, Woods, Felton) or traded for (Winovich) pretty much all made the roster despite many/all of them not producing as effectively as several street free agents they signed or UDFAs.

We'll see if they end up proven correct or not, but it's clear the Browns feel much more strongly about their pass catchers than the fans do.

I am certainly surprised at the lack of a third TE at the moment.

WR is less of a concern to me than C. I actually feel pretty good about our WR's. I think a lot of people are letting narratives drive their opinion on Amari Cooper. He's legitimately one of the best WR's in the league. DPJ is one of the best blocking WR's in the league which is good value on a team with a strong running game like ours.

I really believe in David Bell as a possession receiver and I think Schwartz has game breaking abilities.

The guys they brought in at iDL even on the practice squad don’t inspire much confidence..

Browns seem to like and develop their own guys on PS who have been though a training camp or two, and supplement it with some other outside players..

Speaking to @CBBI’s question/point earlier, think Browns really believe in their developmental process and try to see guys through a year or two of work instead of consistently churning through guys at the bottom to find lightening in a bottle..

Most of the guys on the ps were UDFAs from this year but Forristall was acquired in season last year, and Taylor has been on the PS for a couple seasons now along with Herb Miller and John Kelly.. Prior to that, guys like Johnny Stanton, Curtis Weaver, Porter Gustin, Ja’Marcus Bradley, Sheldon Day, Jovante Moffatt, etc all have hung around there edge of the roster spot as they tried to develop them.. So far, guys like a Michael Dunn and AJ Green would be considered success stories as they were on the 2020 Practice Squad and have managed to develop into valuable depth pieces..

Just a note on how they seem to operate more than anything..

Oh man I'm not worried about center at all.

Between a solid, if unspectacular starter in Pocic, Dunn (who was high key excellent at center in the preseason) and a nice developmental prospect in Hoffman on the practice squad, I think they have the position covered really well.

The place I worry the most right now is tight end. They're one injury away there from playing a lot of unproven guys significant snaps.

Definitely agree about the numbers crunch. I just heard more positives about Rochell than Winovich in the past month, so I put my money on the wrong nag.

I look to the linebacker room for comfort with WR and IDL depth. Berry had us panicking when BJ Goodson and Malcolm Smith shouldered most of the linebacker snaps, but the drafted linebackers have made the leap to replace them.

Yeah, but we know Rosen sucks. We only think Mond sucks.

We have a few years to go, according to Chosen Rosen...
