BEREA, Ohio -- Cornerback Daylon McCutcheon and right offensive tackle Ryan Tucker, two of Cleveland's steadiest players the past few seasons, will both undergo knee surgery in hopes of being ready for the season opener.
McCutcheon, the only player left from the club's 1999 draft class, will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Wednesday. Tucker, too, will have a procedure to clean up torn cartilage in his left knee.
Browns coach Romeo Crennel said he expects both veterans to be back in time for the Sept. 10 opener against New Orleans.
"It's usually three to four weeks (recovery time) on those scopes, and then we'll move on," Crennel said.
The operations come less than a week after center LeCharles Bentley suffered a season-ending knee injury in practice. Bentley is expected to be released from the hospital in the next few days.
Tucker hasn't practiced since Friday, when he walked off the field about 45 minutes into the team's workout. The 31-year-old Tucker started all 16 games last season, his fourth in Cleveland. He missed the final nine games in 2004 after injuring his left knee.
In 2003, Tucker was the only offensive player to take part in every snap.
McCutcheon, the Browns' surest tackler, didn't miss a game last season after sitting out much of training camp with migraine headaches. The 29-year-old, taken in the third round in 1999, has made 96 career starts for Cleveland. He's trying to beat out Leigh Bodden for a starting spot.
