I am in the process of starting a new job where I will lose my company car and go to a car allowance program. Are there any other sales reps on here that travel 30-40k miles in a car a year? I will be going from a 2013 Ford Escape. I have a $700/ month car allowance that needs to cover the payment, insurance and maintenance. I do not have to pay for gas, so I don't need a good MPG car. I want a car/SUV that will drive nice, comfortable, and have low maintenance. I know to get the best ride I have to look at luxury cats, but I am not sure if that is the image I want for the new job.

Any tips suggestions? Do I go new, used? Cheap/expensive?

lease a lambo, ruanlaw did it and hes having so much fun with it he doesnt even post anymore

Haha. Not looking to use all of the money on the car payment. I just have never had to buy a car, and I will be driving around 700-1000 miles a week sometimes.

if youre going for comfort and dependability, Toyota, or Lexus but I know you dont want to be too flashy, so Toyota

Was in a very similar situation until I started working from home. For my first gig with a $550 car allowance, I hung onto my $250/month Honda and pocketed the rest. That was nice.

For my second job with the same allowance, I got a TL which is a fantastic car. That was slightly more than the car allowance there.

I'd suggest going somewhere in the middle of that. If allowance is $700 maybe go for a $500-$550 payment and pocket the rest?

700-1,000/week is a LOT and similar to what Iwas doing before. I'd talk you out of using the full allowance. But I'd also talk you into spending some money for quality. It's crucial to be comfortable when you're driving that much and whatever you get, go fully loaded. Everything automatic, tinted windows (if it gets hot there), Sirius/XM etc.

That thing is your office, so make it nice.

That is my thought. I mean part of me likes the idea of a nice car, but afraid it would portray the wrong image. I also am going back and forth between a SUV or car.

I also wonder what type of loan should I get, go 3 year use all if the money to get it paid of quick, or go with a 5 year and pocket money.

nice choice, but a new one is going to run 40k isnt it? yeah he can probably handle it with the 700/month but still thats pushing it.

after my first camaro was totaled (fuck that fucking bitch) I looked into one and even ending up with a camaro convertible at 36 i thought the A4 was well out of my price range

at current rates take the 5 year, and if you decide you want to pay more a month then pay extra. its been 8 months since i have looked at rates, but i remember the difference between a 3 year and a 5 or 6 year was .5%.

Whatever you do, I'd find a way that you're pocketing money. $100 is worth a lot more to you in a 401k with a match than in a car.

I'd gun for a payment of about $500-$600 which should get you in the Maxima up to Acura range.

I do agree that image is important and depending on what you're soing, you can definitely turn people off with a car top nice for ypur age. What's the job?

It is a national account executive role. Will be covering 7 states with a quota in the 2.5-3 million range. I am only 27, I guess I feel weird driving a 35-40k car. In my past job we always got company cars, had a fusion and escape.

My wife is a teacher and drives a Hyundai Elantra.

In my role, I will be taking out C-Level type contacts out.

I like your instincts. I'd still go fully loaded for whatever you go with. I can't encourage that enough. I think you can pull that off in the high 20-low 30 range.

At the very least, you want a car with a really quick AC and heating system and power everything. Sirius/XM and/or the ability to play your own music are crucial too. As mentioned, if it's a hot area then window tinting is key too. Not as necessary if it's moderate temps.
