Car Advice

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You know allot about cars, so i am sure i am not telling you anything new, but Jaguar while improved, still not known for their reliability.

i am partial to the audi's, if you are a substance over style guy, the S5 is amazing, but outside of badging, they do look like the A5's, but i just bought my 3rd Audi although this one is a 2011 A3 diesel that i got for my daughter, cute, low miles, great price, great gas mileage and fast enough with the turbo, but the HP is low so she wont get in trouble, lol.

Not suggesting an older A3 by any means, but i am an Audi guy, i regret saving money and getting my Tucson which i like, but not getting the Q5 like i originally thought (was also looking Italian with the Alpha Romeo, but if i was going to spend 40-50k i was going to go Audi. (it was after the divorce, i wasnt focused on my career, was playing around too much and trying to keep my mid life crisis in check, so i went with a Hyndai, lol)

I'm a big Audi guy too. I actually came to the conclusion recently that a 2013+ Audi S5 will most likely be my next car. I had a coupe as a daily driver for a long time and I find that having a sedan isn't that useful for me.

Which Audi's have you owned? We've had 4 in my family. TT, A6, A4, and S4.

A4, Avent, S4 and now A3....should have gotten a Q5, but that will be my next

Did you like the 3.0t engine? Anything you didn't like about that car? A 2009+ S4 might be my second choice my next car.

I mean i didnt have to deal with it, but the car gets expensive around 100k miles with the need for new belt and water pump. Engine has to be removed to do both so better to do both at same time, so best to get one that has that already done.

The Q5 is nice.

We had a loaner the last time the A4 was in for scheduled maintenance.

Very comfy, good pep.

I like Audis, but I have always loved Jags. The S5 is nice, but actually more expensive than I want to spend for that 2016-2017 model range. Audis keep their value well.

Years ago (I'm talking at least 20, maybe 25 years ago) I heard somebody say that if you buy one Jag make sure you buy two... since one will always be in the shop that way you'll still have one you can actually drive. Obviously an over-exaggeration, but of all the people I've known that have owned Jags, I have yet to hear one of them be thrilled with the purchase. YMMV.

And they were right. Back when Ford owned Land Rover/Jaguar, roughly 2000-2009, they made cars so unreliable that they were sued for selling lemons right of the new car lot.

They were poorly designed, unreliable and costly despite sharing the same chassis as a Ford Focus. Shitty engines. The Land Rover Discovery II's engine topped out at 180 HP.

But, they have gone from terrible to mediocre in terms of reliability.

Oddly enough, I had a Land Rover for four years, 2014-2018, and I never had a single issue.

One of my Army friends bought a Jaguar XF-R back in 2015. He loves it. It has a 510 HP V8 and superb lines and interior. It is a powerful creature without being ostentatious.

He has had minor issues, but nothing big. The post-2016 models are more reliable than the 1st Generation XFs.

But we'll see. I am going to test-drive five different cars on principle.

And before Ford owned Jaguar there were electrical problems.
Now, they seem to be back on track. I've driven a couple F-type convertibles and they are fantastic.
I bought something else, but they still turn my head whenever I see one.

My son just bought a 2017 XE after using my Audi A6 for two weeks. Both 3.0 liter supercharged AWD cars, but the Jag is much nicer (IMHO), a little faster and it sounds great.

Yeah, the XE is a good looking car and well priced.

I thought about it but I need the bigger sedan.

The XF is the perfect size for what I need.

As one German reviewer has said of the comparison between the Post-2016 XFs and the BMW and Audis are that the Jaguars are far more "emotional" drives than their Teutonic counterparts and something different.

I bought an Infinity G37 as opposed to the BMW 335i back in my early Army days because every 1LT that made captain seemingly bought the BMW. I wanted to be different.

So I might be looking for car this summer if work goes back to the office.

I have a very narrow set of parameters that I have already researched (no Teslas!).

Does anyone have experience with late model Jaguars, 2010 and later, or later model BMW 5 & 6-Series?

On the topic of EVs, but not Tesla, anyone have a Polestar?
