Stop burning gas, get Tesla Model 3. After the $3750 tax credit, the $35k is just barely over your limit, you'll make the difference up in money saved on gas.

He’s just saying this because there is an Easter Egg with the new Model 3 where if you click the trunk button and up-down-left-right-down-down-select-start it’ll play Purple Rain with a light show.

I just think it’s hard to complain about nothing being done about climate change then turn around and buy a gas powered car when electric cars are now price competitive. I did buy gas car for my last car because it wasn’t the case then.

My next car absolutely will be electric. Most likely sometime next year.

So on all the certified pre owned cars I’m looking at around me, the discount from new really isn’t a large gap (less than I was expecting to be able to negotiate down on the new one).

The prices look like they’re reflecting the “basically new” aspect of the car

To those of you who got demo or rental cars with low mileage as certified pre owned, what % lower than the newest model were you getting?

Agree on everything you said.

Also for someone like @The Wizard of Moz who say they hate cars, an electric car cuts out alot of the things that can go wrong with a gas powered car. I feel like half the stuff I change on a car is emmissons control devices. It should have a much lower long term maintenance cost and save probably $1000 a year on fuel costs for an average driver.

The only concern for me would be how much the batteries will cost to replace when the warranty is up and they go bad. Also I would worry about how the interior will hold up with all the different kind of materials Tesla uses, which isn't really that big of a concern.

If you have a garage and are prepared to put new batteries in at 120-150k I think it worth the investment especially if you are going to buy new regardless.

I love the idea of electric cars, but ironically they are worse for the environment than gas cars. Between the fact most electricity still comes from coal and how bad for the environment the batteries are, they are really fake environmentally better. That said, we need to further the technology of them so the become more eviromentally safe thus the need to still buy.

But just like recycling is falsely helping the environment, we need to start somewhere. They say less than 10% of plastic actually gets recycled.

Sad, but true.

Yea I know that it won't be clean until we can actually get green energy to power them. Also we don't truly know the environmental impact of all these batteries but we know it will be bad. Im not completely sure we can produce enough green electricity for both transportation and the current electricity needs.

I think Algae gasoline and fuels seem promising but I think alot more money needs to be invested to make it viable. It won't be a disruptive to our ways either. It can be seamlessly mixed into the current gasoline distribution network.

On the topic of recycling, I'm not sure why we don't have a single stream sorting of trash and recycling to get out all the organic material from the plastics, glass, etc. I was reading how Chinese towns are combining their biomass trash and sewage to produce natural gas. I also read that in England they are converting sewage to natural gas in 18 days with enzymes.

My dad has been a mechanic for the past 40 odd years. He says Toyota. I say get the nicest Lexus you can find within your budget. They are essentially regular toyotas with tighter manufacturing tolerances, and they have some kind of epoxy sandwich body panels that are less prone to rust. I've got an '06 330es with heated and cooled seats and really nice stereo, no rust even tho it's a Cleveland car, and it was only $4700 with 130k miles on it. These things will easily get to 250k+ miles with minimal maintenance. New cars are most definitely for suckers.

Makes sense, I know I am able to convert all the sewage I eat to natural gas in less than 24 hours with enzymes.

I dont think this is true.

not true at all. This site factors in all of the sources of energy for an electric vehicle

https://afdc.energy.gov/vehicles/electric_emissions.html

National average is gas based cars emit 11,434 pounds of CO2 per year per vehicle. The fuel source for the electricity to power electric cars emits 4352 pounds of CO2 per year. On average, tase based cars emit 263% more CO2 than electric cars. And there is a clear path to drive the second number down to 0 by also moving our energy sources to renewable energy. We sure can't drive it to 0 if we keep using gas based cars.

And here too, individuals can help drive their own car's emissions down without waiting on the government to act by installing solar panels in their home.

They don't really know the impact of the battery yet as they are too new, but I have read sources over the last couple of years thinking that this is true.

I am not rooting for it, I am a big believer in clean energy, just seems silly not to take advantage, but CO2 only considers air pollution, when overall environmental impact is considered, right now the batteries are almost as bad as getting rid of nuclear waste.

If we don't stop releasing CO2, we will make large portions of the world uninhabitable by humans.
