Caris LeVert: Drunken Kung Fu

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Is LeVert back in 2023-24?

  • Cavs can't afford the $$$ to keep him and nothing is going to change that

  • After bricking shot after shot in the playoffs, Koby washes his hand and lets LeVert walk

  • Only if he signs for something close to the MLE

  • If Caris plays well in the playoffs, the Cavs will offer big $$$ to keep him

  • KobyAltman! No one else on the team fills his role, so stop sitting on your hands!

Cavs valued LeVert ball handling and playmaking ability. This is very clear. None of the other players on market provide that skillset. Now Koby will look to add shooting specialists with secondary assets

Is he a starter or a 6th man? how many players do you fit in the starting lineup? because he isn't a shooter or a defender.

Cavs need a defender at the point of attack to cover for Garland. They also need shooters... at the 2/3 position.

I’ve been an avid watcher of the board, and I’ve had a couple accounts I lost the password to. I do agree that maybe it was a slight overpay, however, this draft class currently is very good. 2nd rounders are making a bigger difference than they have in any other year. Is that going to be the case this year? Who knows, LeVert can play-make, handle the ball, shoot mid-range, 3 is not excellent but he should have more open opportunities on our team. If Koby did nothing, everyone would be mad saying we are running Garland into the ground. It’s gonna relieve Garland of pressure and help the bigs out. Overall I like it.

I'm pretty shocked so many people love this trade.

Wouldn't it have been better to hop on the Norman Powell/Covington trade instead?
I prefer this one.

We also don’t know what Portland asked from us.

Their scouting department may have valued Keon Johnson, this years 21st pick, a lot.

We also would have had to give up another player(Cedi, Sexton, or Okoro) to match salaries on Powell and Covington.

I also think they valued LeVert’s overall more diverse offensive game compared to Powell’s skill set.

In summary, I wouldn’t have been mad at acquiring Powell and/or Covington at all, but I prefer LeVert and we got him for a lesser cost then would have been required to get both Covington/Powell

We need shooters to spare the floor. This does not provide what we need most.
Cavs have shooters, just not the ball handlers to get them the ball in their spots.

Lauri/Love/Garland are all +plus shooters. Without Rubio, Garland's off ball opportunities have been non existent. That's been remedied. This deal is like adding 1.5 players honestly.

Ok so whose the SG & SF in a starting lineup for the playoffs?

I think Koby wanted a player with that adds flexibility to lineups. LeVert being able to handle the ball and play SF allows them to play Sexton and Okoro on defense in spots that their size isn't an issue. Sexton can guard PGs and Okoro can guard SGs while we also keep another ball handler on the floor in LeVert.
No, the idea is to have exactly one player who can dribble while the rest of the players stand around the three point line ready to shoot. Anything else is redundant.

We had the same strategy with LBJ and won 7 championships so we know it works.

I don't think I care too much either way. It's marginal depending how you look at it.

What I do think is that the Cavs only needed reinforcement for this year. I don't think giving up so many picks is wise in that regard.

Think we gave up too much.

I think we gave up too much considering what we are still missing -- length on the wing, and outside shooting. And to clarify, I don't think Laurie is a long-term starting 3. I think he slides into Love's role eventually.

We don't need shooting specialists. We need shooters in the starting lineup playing major minutes.
