Rosters are mostly set. No games have been played but we mostly know who will be bad, who will be good, and will be fighting for the 8th seed come the ASB.

First order of business is determining who the Cavs have worth trading for. i.e. players who teams would be calling about. I see the following players as having positive value when considering production, contract, and age

Kevin Love
Andre Drummond
Larry Nance Jr.
Kevin Porter Jr.
Collin Sexton
Isaac Okoro
Darius Garland
Cedi Osman
Dante Exum

For the sake of brevity (and realism), we will remove Okoro, Nance, and Sexton. Okoro is a rookie and culture piece. By all accounts, Nance will finish his career in Cleveland and is a culture guy who likes playing here. Sexton is a Dan guy and can be penciled in for 25 PPG (it doesn't appear Garland will make him expendable). It's almost guaranteed that trading Sexton will multiple years left on his deal with end with the Cavs taking a bath on the trade. This leaves the Cavs with:

Kevin Love
Andre Drummond
Kevin Porter Jr.
Darius Garland
Cedi Osman
Dante Exum

All these players have warts in one way or another. However, they do offer something, warts and all:

Love - champion pedigree, high level rebounding, a quality shooting big
Drummond - one of the better centers in a league bereft of quality centers, rebound vacuum
KPJ - supremely talented guard with all-star potential, great size and athleticism
Garland - natural playmaking PG with great shooting potential
Osman - glue guy wing, particularly on offense. great passer, good spot up shooter. 3 and D, without the D.
Exum - veteran PG with size. can ball handle and guard both 1s and 2s.

I'm struggling to find "natural fits" for trade partners. As sellers, the Cavs should be looking to bolster contenders with productive (Love) or redundant players (Garland) in return for draft picks or young assets. The money isn't really working out, unless you bring a third team in. Which makes the whole thing much more complicated.

Pacers present an interesting opportunity. They aren't good enough to make a run, but they're good enough to make the playoffs. They need to make some improvements to get out of the first round.

Cavaliers incoming:
V. Oladipo (SG) (expiring)
D. McDermott (SF/PF) (expiring)
2021 1st round pick
2023 1st round pick swap

Pacers incoming:
K. Love (3 yrs remaining)
Kevin Porter Jr. (3 yrs remaining)

Pacers rationale:

- Oladipo looks bad post-injury and he's heading out of town. Allegations of his behavior being bad for the locker room.
- Love adds championship pedigree. He creates more space for Sabonis to work down low. Also a good rebounder of course.
- Turner added a 3PT shot to his arsenal last season, but projects better off the bench spelling Love (who will need it) and Sabonis.
- KPJ adds a shot creator, which Indiana needs.
- It's now or never for Indiana. They can't worry about what's going on out West. They just need to get through the East and hope for an injury a la Raptors w/ Kawhi.

starters
Brogdon
KPJ
Warren
Sabonis
Love

bench
Turner (PF/C)
Lamb (SG)
Bitadze (C)
Holiday (SG/SF)

Cavs rationale:

- Cavs rid themselves of Love's contract. Love is done a favor by being traded to a contender.
- Dan likes Oladipo and wanted to draft him. If Oladipo shows something, maybe he can be retained. Either way, the Cavs will get a close look and will have Oladipo on birds rights.
- By adding ~$28m in expiring contracts, the Cavs have at least $70m coming off the books at the conclusion of the season. The coming FA class isn't exactly strong, but the Cavs may lead the league in cap space. More picks/swaps, more cap space. This is a good thing.
- Cavs gain a 1st round pick in 2021, albeit one that will probably be in the low 20s. The pick swap in 2023 has more promise. If the Cavs are still ass and tanking in 2023...fuck it. Just hope the Cavs have improved and the Pacers missed their window and have blown it up by that point.
- Cavs rid themselves of a problem (KPJ).
- McDermott is an overall scrub but he's also a deadeye shooter. 40+% from 3.

Cleveland gets: Draymond Green, James Wiseman & Kevon Looney

Golden State gets: Andre Drummond

Why? Cleveland adds a veteran presence in Green to the mix, along with a great prospect in Wiseman & another big in Looney. Golden State saves a ton of money with this deal & adds a veteran big.

Cleveland gets: LaMarcus Aldridge, Dejounte Murray & Devin Vassell

San Antonio gets: Kevin Love, Dante Exum & Kevin Porter Jr.

Why? Cleveland dumps Love for an expiring, while acquiring 2 good young players in Murray & Vassell. San Antonio takes a chance on Love hoping he returns to form. They also take a chance on Porter Jr., who while talented, might not have his head straight.

Cleveland gets: Dejounte Murray & Devin Vassell

San Antonio gets: Collin Sexton, Darius Garland & Javale McGee

Why? Cleveland swaps two undersized guards into Murray, who has adequate size for the 1. They also get Vassell, who is a great defender. San Antonio gets Sexton, who has been ballin this year. They also get Garland, who has a ton of upside.

Sacramento gets:
Kevin Love
2023 1st rounder

Cleveland gets:
Marvin Bagley
Harrison Barnes

How about this trade?

Cavs get: Dejounte Murray & Trey Lyles

Spurs get: Darius Garland & Dante Exum

Why? Cavs get a big point guard to pair with Sexton. Spurs get a PG with alot of upside.
