Cavaliers Fantasy Trade Thread: 2020 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Cavs aren't trading Kevin Love. They definitely aren't trading Kevin Love for bench players and a chance to move back in a weak draft.

Re-read it. And you aren’t exactly the paragon of brilliant trade proposals.

We shouldn’t overrate Love. He means a lot to the franchise, but he’s on the wrong end of the aging curve, is a third banana on a contender, and has injury problems every year. His body already failed him during one Finals run.

Yet he's still our best player and packaging him with our top pick from last season for a worse draft pick, SF on an expiring deal, and journeyman PG is not good value at all.

The Cavs have the 2 best assets in that first trade and we're losing them for what? A chance to make another trade?

Darius Garland and Kevin Love are better assets than Ricky Rubio, Kelly Oubre Jr., and the #10 pick in this draft.

I’d be interested to see what the price tag would be on Otto Porter Jr...

Not sure if he’s in their long-term plans but I’d explore sending Drummond to 3rd team for assets to send to Chicago...

Have to think OPJ would be more cost affordable than Drummond long-term and fills a bigger need..

Not sure how much you know about the CBA, but you are only allowed one Porter Jr on your team at a time, this includes Michael, Kevin and Otto.

$28.4M

Bulls cap is set for the year and they'd probably take any salary dump for him.

It probably doesn't help for a trade that The Bulls pick at #4 and we pick at #5 either

You call Love “our best player” but he’s still the third best player on a contender, injury prone, and getting old. There’s a reason teams haven’t offered much for him. Love is so good he can’t even lead this team to an 8th playoff seed in the East. What’s that about?

As for Garland, he looked awful last season, still looks like damaged goods in offseason videos, and doesn’t fit the roster. He’s been more injured than not since high school.
You can extract value from teams dreaming on him now. Or let his value totally tank if he gets injured again or doesn’t improve.

Just because we like our players doesn’t mean everyone else does. Because as we continue to see, they don’t. Agree to disagree I guess.

building on @sailfish trade idea from another thread.

Trade 1:
CLE acquires: Oubre, Rubio, & #10 pick
PHX acquires: Love & Garland

Logic for CLE: Gets a strong asset that can be used for a good prospect or for other trade packages (pick). Clears young logjam at PG (they aren't playable together). Gets young wing player in Oubre who is under contract two more years and is an improvement at a position of weakness. Favor to Love. Gets closer to Cali. Suns looked ready to compete in bubble. Rubio is playable with Sexton and the other guards.

Logic for PHX: SPACING and championship pedigree. Love gets to play PF and hang out at the 3 PT line. Ayton gets space to work at center. Garland is a young cost controlled PG with top 5 pick pedigree. Ended the season with strong shooting numbers. Garland-Booker-Love-Ayton can fill it up and rebound.

Trade 2:

CLE acquires: #2 pick, Wiggins
GS acquires: Drummond, #10 pick

Logic for CLE: Gets another top 5 pick. Drummond is a short timer either way.

Logic for GS: Rids themselves of Wiggins contract, which is WOAT. Gets a large expiring contract who will actually contribute. Hurts to trade the #2 pick, but the sting goes away with the #10 coming back. Realistically, Drummond does more for them at C this coming season than Wiseman does as a rookie.

Cleveland has #2 and #5 picks.

PG: Sexton, Rubio, Exum
SG: KPJ, Windler, Osman
SF: Oubre, Wiggins
PF: Nance, TT (FA)
C:

Lot of options here. TT can be brought back as a rotation big. Seems like a good decision given the roster composition.

Plus two top 5 picks. Wiseman, Okoro, both? Deni? Okongwu? all are options!

Having Wiggins on the payroll sucks horribly but Dan just joined the inner circle illuminati rich. We have to use this to our advantage to get assets.

Nice trades. Id do the first trade for sure but rather keep 10 and draft Okongwu + Haliburton. We'd reshape our roster into a modern one with one move basically.

Ok, so Oubre and Rubio are off the table now (and so is CP3)

On the contrary I would place good money on Oubre and Rubio both being moved between now and the trade deadline.

Either would fit into GS trade exception
Or Atlanta’s cap space
You could do an Exum, Jordan Bell, and another min player deal+ a pick for Oubre

Either way, Presti will continue to flip vets into picks so he can trade up into the top5 or future drafts or acquire disgruntled superstars by trade

Strange that even at his age Love is only 1 of five players in the league last year that average 17 and 10!

I agree on the Oubre/Rubio front. I think there’s two trades we could make that would make us better this season and put us in a better situation long-term. Here’s my last crazy draft day scenario.

1st Trade:
Cavs Get: #8, #23, Knox
Knicks Get: #5, Bell

2nd Trade
Cavs Get: Oubre, Rubio, Hayes, #13
Pelicans Get: Nance, Osman, Garland
Thunder Gets: Hart, Exum, Hill, Miller, #23

Why for Pelicans: With the Jrue trade, the Pelicans could use a young PG to develop behind Bledsoe. Nance is a great fit next to Zion as the first big off the bench. Cedi is added depth at SF.

Why for Thunder: Hart, Exum, and Miller are all expiring contracts. Miller’s $7 mill is non-guaranteed so they could cut him immediately and save some money or send him to another team. Hill has two years left, but in the last year of his contract only $1.3 mill of his $10 mill is guranteed. Hart’s still developing and might be a guy they want to keep long term. Either way, the Thunder are getting a 1st plus almost $30 mill in expiring money.

Cavs take Vassell or Okoro at #8 (I’ll pencil in Okoro for now). At #13 I’d look at someone like, RJ Hampton, Precious, or Jalen Smith. I like Precious’ fit on the roster.

PG: Sexton, Rubio
SG: Okoro, KPJ, Windler
SF: Oubre, Knox
PF: Love, Precious
C: Drummond, Hayes

That’s a deep roster that’s really versatile. If Sexton and Rubio were going to start together, then I’d look at someone like RJ Hampton at #13 as the Cavs have already been connected to him

We still leave open the possibility of making a trade with Drummond, Love, or whoever, but now we have a bunch of other pieces we could add into a trade to get a better return.

That's probably way more youth an inexperience that Dan Gilbert is interested in. Also Kevin Love would check out before Friday if that happened and tank his value even more.
